1970'S Alembic speaker cabinet for sale in NYC
« on: January 18, 2010, 07:11:35 PM »
Vintage 1970's strong wood speaker cabinet. in great shape. The Alembic Guitar Shop in SF, CA early 1970's made this professional wood speaker cabinet. The shop was in the same building as Pacific High Recorders, which was owned by The Grateful Dead. If you look at pictures of the stage setup at Dead shows, you will see many cabinets just like this one. It is in very good condition. The wood is beautifully crafted and the cabinet is super strong. It measures 18 high by 19 deep by 15 wide. FOR SALE IS A SPEAKER CABINET ONLY-THERE IS NO SPEAKER INSIDE AT THIS TIME It is heavy so this item must be picked up. No shipping is offered. It can be picked up in NY, NY 10025 24 hrs a day in a doorman building.
HERE IS THE LINK TO MY SALE ON EBAY http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150406690840#ht_500wt_1182
THANK YOU FOR LOOKING.

Hi.
Welcome to the ALEMBIC club/forum . The cabinet looks like it is in very nice condition. I have  cabinets for 4/ 15& 1/18  and 2/12 speakers  from the same era loaded with JBL and GAUSS speakers.

I have noticed that the dimensions that you give of your cabinet are even smaller then my single 12 cabinets. It would be very helpful for you to measure the DIAMETER of the hole for the front mounted speaker opening.  Yours might fit a 12speaker  but only a diameter measurement will reveal this.

These original cabinets  in the apparent condition that yours look to be in are not offered for sale very often.  I would  bid on  it but I am located in Oakland ,Ca. and would not be ale not pick it up in person .I however wish you good luck with your transaction .

Thanks very much for the advice. the diameter of the circle cut out in front behind the mesh screen is  11 1/4 inches. Sorry that you live so far away and that the cabinet is too heavy to mail without a huge charge.
best,
Alison

I believe it would be safe to say that this beautiful cabinet would be a nice single 12 speaker closed back front mounted enclosure  for Guitar or Bass or what ever. This is a golden opportunity for  you East Coasters to get a great cabinet and help out a what  appears to be a much needed cause.
