Damn, Must sell Exploiter [SOLD]
« on: June 14, 2011, 05:37:16 PM »
To the community of Alembic bassists-
I find myself in the unenviable position of needing to sell my beloved Exploiter.  I am not looking for sympathy, just a good home for my bass.  I purchased this bass new in Detroit in or around 1986, and have cherished her ever since.  As I'm sure is the case with many, these days, financial situations have forced my hand, and I must attempt to rectify these issues.
So, Here I am.
Mica was able to provide me with this http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=5743.msg64517#msg64517
OHSC is included, though the inner cushion has become slightly smushed?
I am counting on the integrety I have observed in this community, to garner fair and decent offers, and for one lucky member, (hopefully), to become the one who will cherish this bass as I have.

With much sadness, and hope-Tim

Looks like a nice bass, but I think you'll have better luck if you posted a few more pics with some close-ups of the front, back, neck, headstock, etc.  Sorry to hear of your financial woes... there's a lot of that going around.

I'll see what I can do.  I had to borrow the camera.
By the way, it's a medium scale.

Hello Alembic community-
Well, some time has passed since my original posting, with limited interest in my beautiful Exploiter.
It is not my intention to twist any arms, as it were, just to perhaps spark more interest.
It was my hope to entertain offers to set a price, however, that approach is not having the desired results.
Let's say we set a starting price at $2,050, and see if anyone wants to talk me down.
I promise I am prepared to be quite conversational!
If you ever thought you might want to own an Exploiter, this may be your time!
Thanks-

There should be no need - that's a pretty fair price for an Exploiter body Spoiler. Good luck with the sale!

No one in the Alembic club wants a reasonably priced Exploiter?
Really?
Just thought I'd see if I could spark some interest!

It may be a walnut top instead of maple, but these were $2500 regularly a year or two ago. Is the market on that much of a down swing?

Its not just basses and guitars, its everything.  I just don't think people have as much money as they had a even a year ago.  I've got a few things I've been trying to sell for awhile, my skylark, a few guns, and some other odds and ends, all priced fairly reasonably, and no one is biting...

When I first started hanging-out here, people were paying a premium for the Exploiter shape (regardless of the electronic package).  I don't think anyone is inclined to pay a premium for ANYthing in the current environment and I THINK the demand for the shape may be cooling-off a bit.  I think you're going to have to be willing to sell it as a regular Spoiler if you need to move it quickly.

Was curious if this bass can be upgraded to say series I electronics, signature or even the existing electronics with an balanced XLR out would be fine, just looking for an XLR out to incorporate the high & low box and/or the XLR in on my pre. What u'all think?

I doubt Series electronics are possible since they take a larger cavity. At a minimum, there's be a lot of routing and., unless you're specifically looking for a medium scale Exploiter body, you can probably find a used Series bass for less. I don't think the old blue box even had XLR outputs. The Series bass uses a five pin output cable which wouldn't be compatible with your amp's balanced XLR in.

I recommend that you ask Alembic directly if there's something custom they can build for you and what it would cost. That way, you can be more specific about your goals and they can tell you what is possible. This probably isn't the right thread for that discussion to expand, though.

I see bsee,
Series electronics has a five pin connector NOT an XLR, for some reason I thought it was an XLR, DA! Thanks for clearing that up lol. I may be acquiring this bass so I don't think Tim will mind if we expand a bit here. How bout if we substitute a pan pot for the pickup selector? I think pan pots are WAY more versatile & sound better than a selector....

I like a pan control as well and I think you CAN change out the electronics with some other non-Series packages. However, by the time you buy the bass AND the new electronics you might be upside-down in any potential resell.  While the Spoiler doesn't have a Pan control, it DOES have separate preamps.  Therefore, you can set the balance using the trim pots (just can't do it on the fly). I recommend getting the bass and playing it for a while.  If the electronics aren't flexible enough for you, sell it and get something else (hopefully the economy will be turning around shortly).
