FS/FT Alembic Elan 4 Str Fretless [SOLD]
« on: November 14, 2011, 03:36:59 PM »
I have come to realize that I am not a fretless nor a 4 string player. I am selling or trading this beatuiful Elan fretless. I hate to see it not being played.
I am looking to trade for a Elan 5 string. The sale price is $1900.00. I am not not making a dime on the sale. Please see the following thread for details:

Bill,

Any comments on how the pickup placement or the double J influences the sound on this bass?

I am a horrid fretless player, but the only way to get better is to play, right? ;)

Wolf,
I am basically looking for an Alembic 5 string fretted bass. I like the Elan or Europa body style. I may be willing to come up with additional cash if needed. Email me on what you had in mind. Thank you, Wolf for your potential interest.

Toby,
The sound is warm and mellow as you would expect. Mike(pace) would be a better reference since he has played this bass for many years.
I agree on practicing to get better. It?s just that when I play the 4 string I am thrown off a little. I can't seem to get a footing on both the 4 and 5 strings. I am now studying under a local musician and we are using 5 strings, and the Elan is the only 4 string and fretless I have.

Toby,
I forgot to mention that I am now playing for our church and the low B helps me keep in sync with the organist. He can get away from what we rehearsed from time to time

I wish my wife would let me.  I played a Fender Jazz fretless the other night and LOVED IT.  It's been a long time since I had even tried one out.  I think it was easier than I remembered. But, I would love an Alembic fretless more - especially a beautiful Elan like yours Bill.  We're looking for a bass for my son (he's 14) and my wife thinks we already have too many guitars/basses  LOL   I will probably sell a couple of them eventually.

Stephen,
I feel your joyous pain. My wife feels the same way. She pulled the ?3 limit? rule on me. I don?t know where it came from but her declaration made it sound like it was written ages ago and requires the utmost attention. The only way I can get a new bass is to give up another. LOL
One day, I had a friend over who had not seen my basses. He stated that I was on my way to a very nice collection of basses. Keep in mind he is not a musician and knows nothing about Alembic.
My wife shouted from them other side of the house: He can only have three. We both looked at each other in bewilderment. She then said, almost on queue, You can only play one of them at a time anyway!
He jokingly stated: Well it's better than: ?There can be only one?

Is that a tone control, or a filter?

I think its a filter. I am not sure. The specs I gave are directly from the warranty card that came with the bass. I believe the electronics are similar to the Europa

I just reviewed my records and decided to adjust the price: $1900.00 includes shipping. The OHSC is included.
It would be nice if I could trade (with cash if needed) for a 5 string fretted Elan or Europa.

Hey guys!

I'd like to help Bill pass my old bass on to another club member, and answer any questions anyone has along the way, so here it goes:

Toby, the pickup placement was chosen by Alembic when the bass was ordered by it's first owner in '96. Although the pickups are closer than normal there is still quite a distinct difference between the two when panning from one to the other. This bass is a chameleon, the two biggest variables in how she sounds are 1) the player 2) the strings.

Craig, the tone knob is a filter. Actually this bass is an Elan Plus.... the plus was used to ascribe the Europa/Rouge electronics package to the model.

ahh, the good ole days....

PS... Bill is a great guy to deal with.... good people, good bass....
