1981 Series I possibly for sale
« on: June 16, 2006, 02:30:26 PM »
Hi Guys,

I posted this thread on another section:

http://club.alembic.com/Images/393/29050.html?1150478915

Pics there and details RE a mod to provide a master volume rather than the 4 pickup selector.

I'm in Northern Florida. I may sell this outright, or possibly trade. I'm interested in a Walter Woods head, or a European stand-up bass.

If anyone has a stand-up they'd be interested in trading would need to located within a couple of hours of St. Augustine, Florida (between Jacksonville and Daytona Beach).

Email mail with any questions, interest etc.

Thanks

Rick

Hey Rick,
Much as I'd love to take this bass off your hands, there's no way I could offer you a fair price, and you ain't gettin' my Woods! But there is a nice-looking late '70s MI-100-4 on the 'Bay right now priced at $500; I had an identical amp for a while and imagine it would do well for URB.
Good luck,
KFS

I saw that Walter Woods on sale - I think I want the 1200. I played though two different ones recently - there's a guy locally who has 2! One was an older one they called a sweeper - with parametric EQ - the other was a 1200 -  there was a big diffence in the sound and I suspect the same is true of this one. I've very happy with my EA head for both electric and upright - but I want something really portable.

Thanks

Rick

Ok jenney, what does your bass look like? But what i really want to know is how much for that alembic? Or how about an email address so we can figure out a price?

Email address is RSpenceWebTech@yahoo.com

For those who've enquired RE price - I'm so undecided. It looks to me - from looking on Ebay and here - and talking to people who know better than me - that somewhere between $2,500 and $3,000 is a fair price for this bass, if I include the new rack mount power supply and new cable. I'm assuming  the electronics were not upgraded by the previous owner - but the bass is pretty quiet unless you sit right in front of the speaker.

Just the power supply and cable new were over $600, and these were within the last year. So I've actually got more into this bass than it would sell for - maybe I paid too much for it - but it's all relative, isn't it?

What's funny is I had a 78 Jazz bass in immac. condition which went on Ebay for about $1,700 - and it played OK but not great. The Alembic is so much better but it's only worth a little more? Doesn't make sense.

I just played it again at a gig last week - kind of as a goodbye - but maybe I'll just keep it and send my wife out to get a job.

So I'm going to sleep on it for a few days - I'm sure the rest of you who have sold an Alembic know the feeling.

If you sleep on it anymore you could end up in a coma.

Hi Rick - is your bass still for sale?  I'm looking for a Series I - let me know. (Any pics, specs?)

Thanks - Frank
