No interest in this FABULOUS bass, eh? Such a shame....such a shame.......guess I'll have to keep her around for the duration and repurchase 76AC070....AGAIN!  :>)

Chris,

Good to here from you. Do you have a chance to repurchase 76ac070 again? If so you should do it and keep her. Why don't you like this bass she appears to be a beauty.

Hey there, Mark!

Yes, the list of previous owners has grown one larger.   :>)

The individual who purchased her from me last April is interested in selling back to me - and I'll probably do it (pending authorization by the CFO - Rosie).

It is not that I do not like the bass - I LOVE it! It is more a situation of the pain it causes to my back when transporting and wearing the bass.

I'll keep you posted, if you'd like.

Be well!

Chris

You'll have to knock off several thousand dollars from that $3600 to get buyers.

WOW! The way you put / see it, I should price the Essence WITH Coco Bolo, WITH LEDs, WITH a Q switch and WITH Abalone inlays  - at $600.00??? Even though it was well north of $6,500.00 new? If that is the current market for a bass like this, I'll use it for a doorstop, instead!

Thanks for the input, though.

You'll find a buyer eventually.   Brainiac seems to have a problem with the asking price of all used Alembics.   It wasn't long ago that he was going off about early bidders on eBay.   He sounds a little scorned to me.   Value and worth is all in the eye of the beholder.

We've all been around long enough to know the realities.  The typical used Essence ends up in the $1500 vicinity, but the typical Essence tends to be a maple top with quite a bit more wear than this one.  I would expect that a buyer looking to order this exact bass would pay about $5K for it after figuring in a monthly special and typical discounts.  It would have probably been under $4000 two years ago.

I would expect this to sell in a day if priced as a typical Essence around $1500.  It would probably go soon at $2K.  As the price goes up from there, the number of interested buyers will shrink.  This is a relatively unique bass for someone looking for a really classy Essence.  I bet it has a great slap tone!

One way to find out is to throw it on eBay with a reserve appropriate to your selling price and a low starting number.  It will cost you a few bucks for the listing fee, but you'll get an idea of what the general public is willing to pay.  Maybe Brainiac will split the cost with you!

Good luck!

Chris - You've piqued my interest. What model is
designated w/ac. Looking in the showcase
section, I could'nt find an example. Thanks, Jim.

According to Mica:

The AC was a series of numbers used sporadically to designate a custom instrument. These are not on the main sequence of numbers, and this idea was completely abandoned by 1978. Most instruments with an AC serial number code will be elaborate.

essence-
You like the bass at $3600? Go for it. Otherwise, don't knock the truth about it being overpriced.

OK, everyone...slow down with the backbiting - everyone is equally entitled to their opinion (but, thanks for the support anyway!!). As far as pricing goes, maybe I did overpay for the bass - but it was my decision, it was what I wanted at the time and (if I did overpay)it is my problem. Dave, thanks for clarifying the AC confusion before I could get to it - you are absolutely correct. That serial number has been a regular point of interest over the years! Maybe I'll post some pics of it when (if) it comes back to me. There are actually some pics of it in the archive from when I sent it back to Alembic for a refurbish, some years ago. Thanks again to EVERYONE for their input!!
