1976 Series 1 Med Scale for sale - [SOLD]
« on: November 17, 2011, 11:45:54 AM »
This is a repost with more pictures. 1976 Series 1 for sale $3,450.00 OBO. It is currently at Alembic as I had the pre -amp replaced. Bass has some tiny dings and has been well played and well loved. It belonged to my late husband who came over with the British Invasion in the 70's. It is very important to me that it gets a really good home I really want to sell it to a club member rather then a stranger on E-bay. Buyer would pay shipping from Alembic. It comes with a Custom hard coffin style case I  have the 5 pin cable but do not have blue box. Bass is stock  Please e-mail me with serous inquires only.

What's the width at the nut (in inches)?  And the exact scale length?  And what is the story with the preamp?

Thanks,

M

Scale is 32 inches. Mica can answer on the nut. It belonged to my husband who passed away. I sent it up to Alembic to be checked out. Mica said the pre amp needed to be replaced so i let them replace it. Its # 508 feel free to direct ant tech questions to Alembic. I have it up there for safe keeping.

The nut is the classic taper 1.75 inches. The preamp is original, we replaced an IC on the board and tested it out. Everything is functional and good for a 1976 bass. The electronics have not had the electronics upgrade, and the new owner can certainly have that done before we ship it out.

The bass is beautiful, plays and sounds great, and as far as I am concerned, is the archetype of Alembic basses. When I close my eyes and think of Alembic, this is what I see. Probably because I was only 6 years old when we built it and this styling made a huge impression on me.

There might be a few other very minor things the new owner may want (change the backplate to threaded inserts, replace the strap pins) but besides the electronics upgrade, there's not much else this bass needs. There's some honest road wear on it, but the front and back are largely free of blemishes, and it's a gorgeous aged color. I heart Bird's-eye Maple too!

I was able to play this bass when I was at Alembic recently. If I had the extra dough, I'd buy it!

I can say that a medium scale standard point such as this one has a nice balance as well. I recently played three long sets with my 81-1940 Standard Point Series I Medium Scale and LOVED every moment . I also  like this classic  Alembic design, back in the '70's admiring these at 60 Brady St; that's what I wanted. It took a while but it finally happened. The wheel went around and stopped in the same place again , lucky me !

How much does this bass weigh? I love the 32 scale on the Distillate I just bought, and your price is very reasonable. Mica, how much would the electronics upgrade and the other work you suggested set a buyer back? Just thinking out loud here... : )

If I recall, Mica told me that the electronic upgrade alone would be in the region of $1500.

That's correct, enzo. It's a two-tier price, if the upgrade is easy, we charge $750, if it's hard, it goes to $1500.

The bass weighs just slightly over 10 pounds.

I had some other questions about the strap pins. The lower one is a regular pin, it's probably the original one, but the upper one is a screw with a large diameter washer. I've left it as it came to me, so the next owner can decide what they want to do. $25 to install Schaller straplocks.

If the next owner wants threaded inserts for the brass plate, we'll do that for no charge.

Dear Mica,

Would you be so kind to describe what does exactly the electronics upgrade cover? How much would it be to convert is to a Series II electronics?

Thank you,
