« on: January 04, 2012, 07:01:39 AM »
i just bought this bass for $5500 from olie about a month ago.

and unfortunately, i don't see myself bringing it to gigs as i had expected. it's in near-perfect condition, comes w/ the DS-5 blue box, long 5-pin cable, and original hard-shell case. the one upgrade to this bass is the THG custom knobs. i'd like to get what i paid, plus shipping. i'll update this thread as soon as i have the time with some decent pics.

my email address is in my profile... please email me with any interest.

Just curious, why hasn't it made it to gigs? Looks like it would sound great.

hey edwin... it's mainly that we're playing dive-bars late-night with really tight space for stage-area and i fear i'll damage the bass. also, i've become accustomed to my europa's custom narrow neck width and easy to adjust electronics (one pan knob, one hp-filter). i bought the europa as a place-holder for when i eventually found a 5st series, and i now realize that my europa is really the best thing for me right now. if i can't find a buyer, i'm sure i'll be able to put this s2 to use. and it does sound great!

I'm very happy to report the Greg and I have made arrangements to transfer ownership of this beautiful creation.

I can't wait for it to join the '77 Series I as my most prized basses. And I'm hoping to make it my main axe - though I may have to spend a little extra time at the gym. I've gotten out of shape playing light weights since I switched to 5 string. ;-)

Thank you, Art! I noted in the pedigree for the bass, Mica posted that the pickups in it are SC-1 and HX.  I haven't found a description of those in the literature. Can you tell me about them, or tell me where I can read about them?

Thanks very much,

Jim

The SC-1 is the single-coil pickup of which you have two, one on either side of the HX, which is the humcancelling contraption.

This is a good read from the FAQ section: http://club.alembic.com/Images/16271/18779.html?1117034562

Beautiful bass: how unusual to have the logo set right above the nut on the headstock

Vann-Di, the logo just above the nut is not a frequent phenomenon but not unheard of (not counting Elan and 6-in-line pegheads).

Have they worked out a mod for converting the stereo phone jack in the bass to a mono jack, similar to the one in the DS-5? I'd like to be able to plug in with a regular cord sometimes.

Thanks,

Jim
