I bought this a year ago from Bass Central. It was a great addition but now I find myself not playing it. It has sat in it's case for many months and now I am looking to move into something else. I have four of them and I am looking to move in a different direction. It plays beautifully and perfectly balanced, but I don't play it to justify it laying around. Someone can appreciate it fully. It is in PRISTINE condition. I have kept up the finish by hand rubbing it with Liberon wax. Comes with the hard case in the pictures, Original Tools supplied by Alembic, full warranty and registration card. Now down to business. This might be out of line and you are certainly entitled to attempt to sell your bass for whatever you think you can get, but Bass Central currently has numerous, brand new, brown basses similar to your own up for sale at prices at or below what you are asking. I'm not personally interested in purchasing your bass so please believe me that I'm not trying convince you to lower your price for personal reasons. I know your bass is probably in great shape and is only a year old, but if your really looking to sell you will need to convince people that your used instrument is a better buy than, for example this one at Bass Central: Stanley Clarke Brown Model, Small Body, Short Scale, Walnut Top and Back, Anniversary Electronics. It's not 'out of line' Bass Central has gutted the prices on their Brown basses since I bought mine from them. I am trying to adjust the price with a moderator. Thanks for the input.

When you drive a new car off the lot and you automatically lose a significant amount of the new value. The most I've seen a used brown bass go for is about 5k, with most being the $3500 - $4000 range. I'm not interested in buying your bass either (Alembic is currently building mine), but just thought I should throw that out there.

Hey let's all cool down here. The seller has every right to ask what he wants. The beauty of the free market is that the buyer ultimately determines what the price should be, and I mean the actual buyer who is willing to pay the final purchase price for that bass. While most of us would agree the asking price may be high, there may be that one buyer who goes for it. At some point we may be in the seller position, and we would want to get the highest price as well. I suggest that the hostility be toned down on all sides, and although I am not a moderator, I have bought my share of Alembics (I never would sell any of them unless I had a life to save with the proceeds), and will contnue to do so. Let's save the nastiness for discussions about politics (but not on this forum). We need more positive energy, not Baddass attitude. My apologies to the moderators for intervening here, but as a member I thought this was important to stress.

BTW - cars an boats may depreciate, but Pre-CBS Fender instruments certainly have not lost value from their original selling price when new. We feel our Alembics are more worthy, but the not as well informed public so far feels differently. Just some food for thought!

I didn't detect any 'nastiness' in the previous posts, simply guys who were letting the seller know what the market typically brings for brown basses. In fact, I think the posts were made respectfully and in an attempt to help.

I honestly don't see that there is any reason for anyone to cool down here or that anything inflammatory, badass, or nasty has been written which is probably why the moderators have not intervened. My original post clearly acknowledged that a seller has the right to ask whatever he (or she) wants for an instrument. The point being made was that if another organization is selling new basses for the same price or less than one is asking for a used bass (even if its in great condition) and the person really wants to move their instrument, this is more likely to occur if it is priced competitively with respect to the used market. Derek is correct that Bass Central has done some slashing of its Brown Bass prices. I thought he might not be aware of that situation and just wanted to make sure he knew about it. As evidenced by his response to my post, I think its pretty clear that he didn't take my comments in a negative fashion, but rather, as advice from someone who would like to see him sell his bass.

Tbrannon, I love your 2 cents, it is valued by me and this forum. I had both a very hectic day, but boring as well. As a mind exercise I quickly read the posts since I consider the club a safe intellectual and artistic haven. At first I sensed some outrage that someone might want maximum dollar. Yes, educating fellow members is helpful; my point was not that we are agitated per se, but other readers of the site may find that the negative tone is evident. Often they do not enter into the fray, and we must not look at me or you as the center of the club universe, rather the greater whole of readers. I think most members do try to be helpful, but let's face it, we would all love it if our Alembics (basses) appreciated in value. And therein lies the rub, we want to purchase cheap, but sell high. And Hammer, that's a good job of laying down some smack! Are you a WWE fan?

If used Alembics did have a really high resale value that helps everyone who owns one. A '74 Alembic bass is more valuable to me than a '74 Fender would ever be.

And that was part of my point. We want to buy low and sell high. So if the seller asks too much, he won't get a response. If he lists too low, he loses money he could have made. Isn't capitalism grand?

I'm happy just to break even when I sell instruments. I don't think I've ever made a profit, but I used to buy a bass, or some gear, play it for a year or two and then sell and try something else. I've never was able to afford a big bass collection. Now I know what I want. I'm hoping the brown bass that Alembic is working on for me will be the last bass I ever own. Unless of course its another Alembic!

OK final price adjust. Guys this is a 99% instrument. Only reason it is not 100% is because I owe and have played it. Like a car leaving a car lot. So soembody can appreciate this fine instrument $5000.00. Final price.
