Brief history:
I have wanted an Alembic for a long, long time.
The bass was originally fretless when I bought it, the previous owner dropped it off at Alembic so I could have the following work done:
I had the fret board replaced and now it?s fretted
I had side LEDs added with a dimmer.
When I got the bass and played it did not sound right.
For years I had been trying to figure out was wrong with the help of Mica, that?s why the bass is virtually untouched/played since I bought it. Shipping it down to Alembic was not a cheap option plus getting it back up here could be another issue. Countless emails back and forth between Mica and myself and we could not figure out what the problem was, we thought it was a faulty pre amp.
Last year I was communicating with another bass player and he told me to try checking the Ohms on the pickups. I emailed that info to Mica and her dad determined that it was a faulty pickup. Mica sent me 2 new pickups last year. I do not know how the circuitry operates but a faulty pickup does affect the sound immensely.
The reason for thinking of selling my basses: 6 and 5 string Ken Smiths, a 5 string Squire Jazz plus the Alembic is my second finger of my (picking) right hand is functioning as it used to, could be issues in my forearm and culprit could be too many years typing on the computer. I am trying to find a therapist who knows about and have dealt with muscians especially bass players or classical guitar players.
