2 basses for sale or trade for MK5
« on: September 25, 2013, 01:08:37 PM »
Folks, I am looking to get a Mark King 5 string (pointy, Omega, Balance - I'm open to all 34 signature electronics equipped models) and have a few nice basses up for sale to help fund that. I'd be willing to trade both for the right bass

First: W&T Chronos 35/5
This is a flat out outstanding instrument. 35 B string is superb, and W&T founder Enrico Passini told me this bass has one of the best B strings he has ever played - as a luthier and former Fodera dealer.
I am looking for $2700 shipped in the US, but will consider shipping elsewhere.

Specs:
Body : Alder with Alder/purpleheart toneblock
 Top : Indian Apple
Neck : 3 piece , Maple / Ash / Maple
Fretboard : Macassar Ebony
Scale: 35
Preamp : Custom John East / W&T Design (vol, blend, bass boost/cut & treble boost/cut, mid boost/cut & mid sweep, active passive/tone) Passive tone is always on, which is pretty cool
Pickups : Christoph Dolf Dual Coils (bassculture.de)
Bridge : ETS Tuning Fork
Spacing : 18.3mm, It's very comfortable
Tuners : Hipshot Ultralight
W&T gig bag

Some pics of it at my house, with my BB75 (not for sale):

I can take as many pics as folks want to see.

This is a review of this exact bass, not a similar one ,but the very same bass done by J. Wolf for Bass Musician magazine:

Second : Roscoe Century Standard Plus 6
Great 6! This was brand spanking new in May and looks it. I wanted one for a long time and finally got one recently, but was already leaning hard towards an Alembic before getting it. Plays great, sounds fantastic with a wide range of useable tones. This is a great chording and soloing bass and it's tough to put down when you start noodling on it   $2100 shipped in the US, but will consider shipping elsewhere.

Specs:
3 piece maple neck with Wenge fretboard
Swamp Ash body with Cocobolo top
Bartolini pickups and pre (I will fill this out a bit later when I get home)
Roscoe gig bag

I have decent feedback at Talkbass as jim777, 100% feedback on eBay as jimandmaurawhite, at as Jim777 on Jemsite.com forums where I'm a moderator.

Any questions, please feel free to ask
p.s. I had a login here that stopped working for some reason, but i was able to request and get my same exact name and pass word back, so I am both jim777's on here. One has 20+ posts and this one has whatever it has

Just to circle back and close this one up - the Roscoe has been traded away, and the W&T is still for sale.

As I've noted elsewhere, even though W&T is a small Italian company, this is a stellar bass. I have had and sold Roscoe, Smith, Zon, Modulus, and Elrick Platinum basses since getting the W&T as they simply didn't measure up to it. Built by luthiers in Italy who were also Fodera's Italian distributors for over 10 years, you can see the similarities with that other high end brand in the playability and feel, and the sound is both exquisite and flexible with the custom John East preamp.

thanks

Would consider a straight up trade of the W&T for a 5 string fretless
