After the hell I went through this weekend worrying while getting my spoiler to and from the studio... Since I recently sold off two basses I think I should just get a backup for my spoiler.
I'm looking for lefties. For the right prices I'll look into beat up, project, or possibly even right handed epics or etc to flip or make into projects...

less than 6 strings please.

Just a suggestion, predicated on the belief that there are no Alembic beaters... maybe you could Alembicize a lefty of some other -shall we say- make of lesser intrinsic and sentimental value. You'd still have a pretty awesome thing to record with. Recording gigs/sessions are (typically) safer than the road, though obviously your recent experience has been counter to that.

If you shop around, you could feasibly score a complete set of used activators and a Fender-ish lefty for less than 1k. Just the other day on TalkBass, there was a full drop-in set of used Alembic P/J activators for $250. Kick in another $250 for a used lefty Squier and you're done for half that.

It's not how I'd go, but I do know howya' feel about protecting the baby though. Good luck!

Haha. I found it extremely hard to use any of my basses other than my spoiler and occasionally my mockingbird, after getting a taste of Alembic.. I ended up selling all but those two and my very first bass! (Kept it for sentimental value). But man you guys weren't kidding about Alembic addiction. It struck hard.

One more suggestion then.

Road case... these guys make the best ones in the world: http://nashvillecase.com/Home.html (I know, because I used to work for him, back when I was a hungry, but not quite starving musician on the cold hard streets of Nashville)

These are extremely tough cases, and accordingly expensive, but still cheaper than another bass.

Meantime, we'll keep an eye out for another one.

* and yes, there's lots of great basses out there, but there is nothing quite like an Alembic.
