SC Signature Deluxe bass and tenor tuning
« on: September 17, 2009, 05:07:16 PM »
Hi Everybody,

Finally I got my SC Signature Deluxe bass!
Oh yes, I love it! Beautiful bass and beautiful sound.
I would like to try tenor tuning on it, A-D-G-C. I have been suggested to use gauges of .080, .065, .045, and .030.
Does anyone have a suggestion what SHORT SCALE strings should I use and where I can buy them?

hi millieri, i use these gauges exactly for ADG, i use d'Addario exl 170M for ADG and d'Addario xlb 032 for C string. You can find anywhere.

Thanks Dave and Pierre-Yves!

Are those d'Addario strings short scale?

EXL 170M are medium and xlb 032 is long scale but you can use because very thin. Short scale strings are not possible to use with SC Alembic

Thanks again Pierre-Yves, but sorry I am a newbie here. So I am a bit confused.
My Alembic (30.75) came with short scale Alembic strings CX-3/45S.
So should I use short scale strings also for tenor tuning? Or does it really matter?

Because of the distance between the tailpiece and the bridge, you are better off with medium scale strings - other brands' short scale strings may not fit.

Good luck - it should be fun once you find strings you like! You might have to make some adjustments, but it shouldn't be too bad. I put EADGC strings on my 5-string which was originally BEADG - the only string that I didn't like as-is was the low E (it was loose in the bridge saddle), but you shouldn't have to deal with that.

mainly strings you can use with SC are medium scale ... Alembic build special short scale strings. I think it's not standard. If you use other strings, you must have medium scale (d'Addario, GHS...)

Now i understand what you guys mean, finally ;-)
I think i will try the d'Addario strings you Pierre-Yves are using. Thank you very much for that suggestion. I highly appreciate it.
And listening to your video i can really say that you have the SOUND!

Ari
I prefer the original Alembic Short Scale Strings tuning ADGC, I think you get the best SC Sound with these....
you can order it at the Alembic Shop
