Hi Pat, I would not feel too bad about that one getting away. I talked to a couple people at Gruhns about her and thought no thanks. Vague history, no updates, no power supply, firm on the $3000 price. Unless you are a big fan of Mr. O'Conner I think you could do much better for that kind of money. Did look cool in the photo.

i have no idea who he is because i've never listened to the dregs, although i know vaguely of them. just not my style of music. so, appreciate your comments because it makes me feel better about losing out in that i, too, didn't understand why there would be such a limited description of the bass and even to the extent there was no mention of a case. i thought that an odd thing to leave out and presumed it was left out for a reason----there wasn't one. as far as the price, i just can't find a used series I in anywhere near that price range. am i doing something wrong or do i just not know where to look? i've run the websites of every alembic dealer listed here and in the forums. all are in the near $5K area. what am i doing wrong. i would love a series I or a signature, but just can't seem to find any under $3K.

Mark O'Connor is a world class fiddle/violin player. His work with the Dregs is but a minor footnote in his career.

I actually became aquainted with him through his work with Dave Grisman and Stephane Grappelli.

i must apologize for my intemperant remarks. i listen to and play hard rock/metal. i've been corresponding w/glenn hughes and guys from my era who play deep purple, judas priest, disturbed, jerry cantrell, rem, U2, robert plant, etc. that's what i listen to. sorry. no offense intended to o'connor. his ownership of the bass was irrelevant to my desire to own it. i had never even heard of him. but, by god, i know doc watson. and, his brother. those are pickers.
