The other day I was replacing my battery in my Excel bass. I was always guessing when the battery was going to die on me and hope not at a gig. So off I went to RS to solve this once and for all.
 
After I spending a few dollars this is what I end up doing. I put in a lcd and added an extra battery in parallel. Now no more guessing when the batterys dies.

With two batteries in parallel I'm not sure what the voltage will be. Did you check with the mothership how best to do this?
 
When you hear some distortion in the sound, that's when it's time to replace the battery. I wouldn't be surprised if the LED was still shining nice and bright at that point.

Parallel voltages are the same according to wiki,
VT  = V1 = V2...= Vn  where n is the nth voltage
 
The leds's fitted by SIMS LEDS on my MK use the same battery as the pre amps and is a great indicator of dying battery before the distortion cuts in.
I really don't understand why the extra battery, I would have thought an in line LED with the pre amp battery and appropiate resistor to prevent it burning out would be a better indicator.

The two battery just keep the one battery from dieing so fast, plus I can go longer without a battery change. The LCD has a ICC chip install so that if the battery voltage fall below 7.5 volts it will go out letting me know the battery are getting weaker.
Plus it was fun to do. You know how bass player's are alway looking for something different.
