Author Topic: Mark kings/ signatures/series/others w/tailpiece horns (Read 907 times)

my mark king arrives tomorrow. mica and dave and i have discussed the horns. so, i'm on the horns of a delimma (sp?). i have a stand which should keep the tailpiece horns from contacting the floor of my bassroom, which is carpeted. however, i'm scared to death of jarring them even the slightest bit. remember the man bra episode of seinfeld? the bro. just on a day to day basis, obviously not in public where children/horses/animals would be scared, is there some unspoken alembic prophilaxsis one uses to protect them? is there some kind of nasa body contouring/swedish sleep solution kind of foam or something you can use to protect them? ideas? solutions? advice other than be real careful?

I use a guitar hook, which is bolted [securely] to the wall, not a floor stand. The hook holds my bass at the nut. It displays my Alembic like a piece of art [which it is] and also holds it securely. Be sure to use the ones with foam covers though, otherwise you'll get some wear where the neck flares unless you're really careful.

I do the same. Both of my Alembics hang proudly in family/music room.

i have a fender bullet autographed by green day and use a hook to hang that on the wall. i was worried about this stuff you hear about basses being heavier than guitars and stress cracks developing where the neck and headstock meet. not a problem w/alembics due to their solid construction?

I always keep my alembics and other instruments for that matter in their cases until I need to use them. When I get them out to play, they are hung on a guitar hook in between practice sessions.

I use the Ultimate stand (that's the name of the product, not a value judgment). It holds the bass securely at the nut.

I always leave mine in the case until the time comes to play it. My advice is to use the case. This way accidents are less likely to happen. It also helps prevent dust build up.
I wouldn't leave a caddy out to the elements, I would put it in the garage. Wouldn't you?

ove-hee Just'n case is a brand name for (molded) cases for guitars and basses. Dunno for your side of the pond.

I've actually heard of those, O Bad One, but I used to have a serious problem with music magazines. I'm better now.

I use a guitar tree that holds three guitars or basses suspended from the peghead. It holds the bass high enough to prevent the tip from touching the ground.

Like jazzyvee and oggydoggy I keep all my instruments in their cases until I need to use them ( the best protection ) and I only use cases not gigbags ( I refuse to use gigbags). Depending on floor space and how many sets the gig is I 'll use 2 single Onstage stands ( for a 1 set gig ) I really don't like the singles, or a Onstage triple stand ( for 3 or 4 sets ) its ok, better than the singles, but I'm still not pleased with it, I have trouble fitting my Conklin 7 string necks in it cause of their width and my Chapman Stick also ( I have a nice Stick stand) but prefer to bring only 1 stand if possible.

However I did find a Warwick 7 instrument stand I really really like, its built like a anvil roadcase, and will safely hold up to 7 instruments of any neck width or body style, the inside is completely lined with felt, sets up in seconds and doesn't have any parts to fall off or lose, its like an UltraCase stand but much less in price. I think they make smaller ones as well.

Hey James that guitar tree looks nice, where did you pick that up ?

I expect my fiver to be with me 'til I will it to my kids. Unless you're talking about the Lakland fiver. Sold that to a school teacher in Minnesota. Everything else in the picture is still mine.

I picked up that tree at music store in Waterford, Mi. Name of the place escapes me. I'm currently on vacation in Vegas, so a lot escapes me right now. Cost about $50 - 60.

It's great to take on gigs. Since I usually only take two basses to a gig, I usually score points with the guitarists who now have a cool and convenient place to hang a spare.
