Cool bass on eBay - interesting description

Check out this bass on eBay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7386669767&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1

I especially enjoyed this portion of the description:

The neck width, scale size, body shape (and size) headstock size, pickups (the center one at least), and even fret markers are TOTALLY unique to this bass!  This bass took 4 months to build!

You mean it has a humcancelling pick up in the middle?  Oval fret markers?  And a whole 4 months to build!  I'm flabbergasted!  (tongue firmly planted in cheek).

I've played that one.  The neck needs about a week with Joey, because it's bowed back about 1/2 an inch at the nut.  Otherwise it's a gorgeous instrument.  My experience indicates the typical GC employee is an ignorant and tedious vacuum.

Very nice. But why does it have a dummy pup when it has Europa/Rogue electrons?

Dave,
One reason is to prepare it for a future upgrade to Series electronics.

I used to own that bass for a few months. It is extremely heavy, and the 35 inch neck seems really long. The reason why I didn't keep was the sound. I  prefer the sound of the Series 1 or 2. This bass looks great but lacks a ballsy sound I expect from an Alembic.

I'm pretty sure it needs at least a MONTH with me . . . .

Can we do a serial search?  98MK11736

Is the neck dimensions they quote the 'comfort' taper for those who don't want the the traditional 2 x 2.5 five string, or is this truly custom?  I'm guessing AXYs, and the hum-canceller was installed for later update to Series electronics, obviously.  And what body shape would this be, and IS there such a thing as the 'shortened' Crown headstock?

I can't imagine this shape, long horn or no, in 35 scale, I bet it DOES feel pretty long.  Whoever buys it, SEND it to me, it'll play like buttah, and I'll find the ballsy sound in it!

As dimly as I hold Guitar Splinter esteem-wise, you REALLY have to study ALEMBICs for quite a while to be able to discern the various styles and features, basically in a vacuum, as you're just not going to ever hold lots of them in your hands.

I just love reading this ad. It reminds me of old Saturday Night Live- with Bill Murray as the Lounge Singer- If he worked at guitar center.

I Just purchased this Bass on ebay. Haven't received it yet but after reading your comments here I am getting a little concerned. This will be my first Almebic. I have always been a fan of them but have always had to settle for Chevys because I couldn't afford a Rolls.
PS How can it be bowed a full 1/2 at the NUT? Not much neck left after the nut.

Hi Olie; welcome and congrats!!  It's a beautiful bass!  I don't think you need to be overly concerned.  If adjustments need to be made to the action, you'll find instructions here on the board in the Must Reads section for doing just that. And I think you are going to find that this bass is going to sound wonderful!

Thanks Dave. I will check the adjustment instruction on Alembics website as soon as I get the bass and see what it needs. I set up all my other basses myself,(after 31 years of playing who knows what I like better than myself) and feel comfortable making any adjustments.
