Who's your "Dream Dummer" for your style of bass playing?

I've been lucky enough to play with some really tight, good drummers.  But also unlucky to have sat in with some who couldn't count through breaks.
To answer the question of style, the wierd thing is I CAN'T PLAY S**T with a bad drummer.  I need a drummer with a tight syncopated style.  As mentioned above Stewart Copeland would fit.

Since we are talking about drummers that suit our own style, here are drummers that I would like to play with:
 
Ringo Starr. He isn't flashy but I remember reading an article where Paul McCartney called him the best time keeper he had ever played with. On that same note, (no pun intended), Paul's long time drummer Abe Laboriel Jr. More flashy than Ringo but also knows when to sit back and just keep the beat.
 
Kenny Arnoff. The guy has played with everyone for obvious reasons.
 
Don Brewer (Grand Funk Railroad, Bob Seger) He can play any style and is very smooth.
 
Joey Kramer. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry get all the attention but Kramer is the best musician in the band. By the way, isn't it about time that Tom Hamilton starts getting recognized for being one of rock's best bass players?
 
Steve Smith. He rose to fame with Journey but is recognized as one of the best jazz and session drummers in the world.
 
Phil Collins and Ginger Baker.  
 
Neil Peart. His style wouldn't really match well with mine but hes is one of the best drummers in the world.

Anyone who has good meter, a sense of pocket, groove and dynamics and is flexible and willing to adapt to what the band (including me) is doing.


I've been very fortunate thus far as a bassist, I've encountered only one drummer I couldn't get along with - this guy had incredibly poor meter and would push everything. For example, we'd start something at 110 bpm and he'd immediately be off to races - sometimes finishing at around 120-122 bpm. He refused to make eye contact with me (or anyone else) and just stared straight ahead while continuing to pick up speed as he mechanically executed his parts.


A drummer doesn't need to have perfect meter like a metronome to be good. The really good ones instinctively know when to push a little and when to lay back a little - like breathing along with the music.

All I know is I'm physically worn out at the end of an evening when I gig with a weak drummer.
It's heaven when you do a pick-up gig and the drummer knows to sync his kick with the bass groove.

I have been fortunate to have worked a lot with the same drummer for ... omg 30 years!

We have great chemistry and as an added bonus he has "written" some of my best bass parts. 
We will be developing a song and there is a break for a short bass riff, sometimes I create a well formed piece other times he will say: "You should play bah dah baa daddy did dobah" (sings the riff) and golly gee if it isn't the perfect riff!!

Boy, isn't this the truth! At the end of the night with a weak drummer I feel like Sisyphus. At the end of the night with a good drummer I feel like I have two more sets to play.

I like playing with Drummers that know the Basic Drum Rudiments of which there are 40 .

Is that 40 rudiments, or 40 drummers who know them, Wolf?
