interesting electronics setup.  no hum canceller?  i'd almost go for tht but the opening bid is a little high imho.  if i didn't already own a spyder i'd consider doing something pretty foolish ;-)

Looking at the shot of the back it looks like a square upper plate for series electronics but it only has 2 screw holes in the plate instead of 4.  If those 2 screws are for gain then I would assume that it's series electronics with no hum canceler since the 2 missing screws in the backplate would have been for adjusting the phase of each pickup in relation to the hum canceler. No hum canceler, then no need for those 2 screws.

I don't think that I've ever seen a series electronics setup with no hum canceler though. I can't imagine why a person would not want to have the hum canceler.

Perhaps they are AXY humcancelling pickups, and they are paired with the Series preamp, which is of higher quality than the regular preamps? Then you wouldn't need the trimpots for adding the humcanceller signal to the single coil signal.

Sometime within the last year or so, there was a post of a picture of a series instrument with no hum canceller.  If I recall correctly, Mica posted at the time that there had indeed been a very few series instruments that were made with no hum canceller.

I can't tell from the photos, but it almost looks like it could be SII electronics.  There appears to be a master volume, and I can't tell if the Q switches are switches or small knobs from these photos.  Anyone else have an opinion?

After supersizing the 2 body-front closeups, it seems pretty clear on my screen that they're knobs.  I seem to recall seeing a post where Mica said older Alembics had the HX inside the body instead of surface-mounted, and that they would still that if you wanted - maybe that's the case here?

If there was a separate humcanceller, then you would expect to see four holes for the trim pots in the backplate, not just two.

The older Alembics with hidden humcancellers were built in the early years  - check out the Showcase section, for Series instruments with serial numbers below 500 - IIRC, there are one or two of those listed.

Without the hum balance controls on the backplate, my guess is that this is Series electronics with AXY pickups. I know there's at least 5 of them out there with that arrangement.
