« on: March 14, 2007, 05:06:02 PM »
hello all and thanks to all who read this post. i am looking to pick up a series I or II and found one on guitarbroker.com. i know these instruments arent cheap but does $4995 seem reasonable for a bass with no balance point or omega cut??..... im still a rookie in the alembic world and would appreciate some input.(sorry about no clickable link didnt know how to do it)
                         thanks again,
                                  nate

Short Series I basses are always in demand and that one sure is pretty; but in my opinion $4995 sounds too high.

Here is the link.

That picture looks a little familiar.  Maybe they're just all running together in my head.

The more I look at that picture, and the more I think about it, well .. I don't know.  It kinda looks familiar, and it kinda looks unusual, the body shape, pickup placements, maybe it's the angle of the photo and/or the light.  Maybe I've just overtaxed my brain and need to look at something else for a while.

Dave, I think that was listed by them on gbase.com for a while, so that may be where you saw it last.

Nate; I don't know what I'm thinking; maybe I'm just going nuts.  For some reason the body just doesn't look like a small standard to me.  But I'm starting to think it's a combination of the diagonal lines of the floorboards, the fence railing, the shadows and the glare of the sunlight.  In other words, I think I'm fooling myself.

The horns look a little overcarved - like the inner curve is broader than usual. Y'know, I think this may be two small sides of a Distillate shape. The body also attaches to the neck a little higher than usual for a Small Standard.

Every one is different for sure!

Thanks Mica!  I'm not losing my mind after all!  Now I can walk downstairs without holding tight to the railing!

I agree with Keavin; it appears to be a Spoiler with Standard Point body and Crown headstock.  Probably a Walnut top and a Mahogany body, with a three piece Maple neck.  Very nice!  You can post the serial number to our section and get a more accurate description.  Congrats!

There has been a request for this bass, it's indeed a Spoiler.

Thank you Keavin , davehouck and fc spoiler (what a memory!) yes it's the same bass! Now I'm more confident and happy to have sold it ( I only had epictures)! It's very nice ! I'LL tell you more later. Just one more thing : what do you think off using this bass whith flat spire strings ?
Thanks again.
