I had a problem with the tone control pot in my Essence 4 string. This bass has Europa electronics, and I never had an issue with it until recently. I had a guitar tech in Fayetteville, NC to replace the tone pot several weeks ago.

It has an assembly of 3 position EQ switches, and (1) volume, (1) balance, (1) tone control knobs. The trebel switch in the EQ assembly doesn't work now after his repair.... hello....

Can anyone suggest a competent repair tech close to Fayetteville, NC or Raleigh, NC???

Or even better.... tell me what to look for and I'll do the repair myself.

Oh, and could you post some close-ups of the electronics parts? Some of the regulars here have a sharp eye for things that could be wrong.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will post some pictures of the wiring inside later this weekend.

I am kinda tied down for time, for the next 2 nights, I have 2 jobs to play this weekend. As soon as I get back home I will send them on to you.

Greg - I live in Fayetteville.

The best tech here in Fayetteville is Brad Muffett, of Sandhills Music Center on Owen Drive. I've had him work on several of my basses, and he's the only guy here in town I'll let touch any of my instruments. He definitely knows what he's doing.

BTW, I owned a Europa as well and am familiar with the controls.

Thanks for the suggestion alan. I called Sandhills Music yesterday afternoon and talked to a guy there behind the counter.

It wasn't Brad that I talked to though. This guy told me that ...(he)... and Brad both worked on, and were very familiar with Alembic basses.

I am not sure what this person's name was, although I have heard some good things about Brad through other players that I know around the area.

Is Brad the only person at Sandhills Music that is capable of repairing the problem in my wiring in your opinon?? I am planning to take my bass to them sometime week after next.

I have two more jobs to play before Christmas, and I don't want to be without my number #1 bass.

Greg - Brad is the only guy I'll let touch my stuff here. There used to be a guy named Jack Cassity that did repairs, and he actually used to be a tech on the road for national acts. He stopped doing it a few years ago (pressure from the wife), so my recommendation is Brad. I don't know if anyone else is as good as he as I've not had them touch my instruments. Of course, it's totally your call.

Not a problem Alan, I let Jack do some work on a '68 P Bass that I had owned back in the early 90's. I called him last year and asked about a setup, but he said sorry so that was that.

I had Jack replace the nut on my '79 Stingray a few years back, and he stopped tech work shortly after that. My bass was one of his last jobs.

We should get together sometime. I'll make the BBQ!
