I like it too.  This one showed up for sale a while back.  I remember the price being real high then as well.  But, I thought at the time he was just using the ad for the guitar to attract attention to his guitar teaching DVD he was trying to push.  Maybe he is serious this time.

I would think that perhaps if there were better pictures he chould have a shot at finding it a new owner.

Very cool - I've seen this one somewhere before (or similar) - would like to see better pictures.

More (small) pics and video here.  (There are blank spaces at the beginning and between sections of the video.)

James; the cutout makes it look similar to the Johnny Winter guitar.  The look of the top mounted cavity plate is similar to Keavin's bass.

For this price one could get a brand new Series guitar built to your specs.

I would think that it might get get a bit heavy in the neck do to the center of gravity relative to the strap pins.

According to Val's info in this thread Jerry had 3, 6, 13, 25, & a later one - no #10.

I pulled a pic of this guitar off this site a few months ago. I don't have the thread but my recollection was that Mica had it in for a checkup. Serial number is a match to the one I logged

Just for S&Gs, I asked the seller about the provenance (mentioning the info in Val's post linked above) & electronic changes.  It hasn't shown up on the listing, but he replied via e-mail thusly:

The only information I have is on the auction listing. though the next email he asked where I got the guitar and mentioned that alot of stuff was stolen from the Dead. Also the person I bought it from bought it from Prune music in Mill Valley where Garcia lived at the time.

The Electronics:
One of the preamps stopped working so I had someone rewire around that. I went to a Giants baseball game and coincidentally sat next to the new partner in Alembic and he said they could rewire it to the original specifications.

Better starting price, new auction.  It's interesting to watch a historical instrument go to a new home from a forum such as eBay.  USA only according to the auction specifications.

It's a very interesting and historic Alembic, but I can't help being put off by the this was probably Jerry Garcia's guitar b.s.  As has been established here, (and a quick call to Alembic would verify), this was not Jerry's guitar (which, I suspect, the seller knows very well).

I agree Bill, but I have to wonder who did own it from that era.

Yeah, I wish the seller was a little more honest in the listing; his provenance claim is wildly speculative.

However, you can hear the owner play her in a video on this link:

He plays a nice little Eyes, and the guitar sounds pretty cool, too.
