Alembic Orion baritone guitar on Ebay
« Reply #15 on: August 07, 2008, 03:49:22 AM »
LOL Wow. You guys are funny. Have any theories on who killed JFK?

I have over 4000 feedback on ebay as a seller. Zero negatives as a seller. ZERO--in ten years on eBay. Out of over 6000 deals. I bet I have more repeat feedback than most of you have positive feedback. I've dealt with a few of you as both buyer and seller. I have pretty good karma, my own self, it would seem, as I'm the one who ended up with this guitar for a very good price. I think one of you said deal of the year, yes?

Indeed, it was traded to me by the same guy who bought the unfinished sg from elwoodblue. We parted that out and did pretty well on it. $600-700 profit, as I recall. Elwoodblue got what he needed (fast money for his project). After a little more work and shipping the parts to Europe, we made a few $$ from our efforts. Of course, it could have stiffed on us, lost money or not sold at all, but that's why they call it speculative investing.

Now, to the guitar at hand, or at least in my hands. The orion baritone was listed for a few hours before it was purchased. Any jolt regarding the listing is no fault of ours. It had a buy it now price and it was bought then. I traded for it Wednesday morning and although it turned me on to baritone guitars, I decided to sell it and use the profit to buy another cheaper baritone and put the capital back in the kitty. Hence I listed the guitar for a price I felt was fair market value. OBO. I don't work a job. I'm what you call a struggling writer. So forgive me for trying to make a buck, or even a thousand bucks. Or don't forgive me. I don't care, really. Just saying.

However, after jamming with it, and checking prices on others, and weighing that against the weight factor (since this one weighs less than some p basses or les pauls I've had), I decided to hang onto it. My birthday is Monday, 8-11. My wife has been complaining that she doesn't know what to get me. Bingo. Two groundhogs with one barrel. And this is an opportunity to play a very nice guitar that has already inspired me.

So, from where I sit, my karma seems brick house solid.  And, BTW, since I had already paid $4 for the auction, I just substituted new words and photos for the ad. I can't just keep this thing without selling something, so I replaced the old with the new guitar for sale. Fixed price listings are nice that way.

I hope this quiets the Outer Limits of your imaginations. By a conspiracy of circumstances, this baritone has come into my hands, and walnut top or not, I'm very happy to own it. If I ever decide to sell, I'll offer it here first.

Maximum Guitars, um, so it sold but it didn't sell? How does that sit with your buyer? Or was your wife the buyer? An Ebay sale is a contract and if someone hit the B-I-N you are obligated to sell to them.

As for conspiracy theories, please forgive us in the Club. Alembics are expensive and rare and when we see an auction that looks unusual our hackles go up. There have been many B-I-N scams with hijacked accounts in the Club's history.

So yes, we understand that you are not making IEDs, you're just watching for bargains, having cash at the ready, buying, then reselling at what you feel is a fair profit/price. That's business.

Aha, another conspiracy. Now I didn't honor a sale on ebay? I think you misread. The guy who sold it to me bought it now. I never sold it. I changed my mind and listed another item in its place.

Oh, OK, your post was a little confusing. I thought you stopped the sale. So the guy sold it to you for $888 and bought it back at $2195??? Now I'm more confused. LOL

No, i never sold it. I kept it. The guy who sold it to me did the buy it now. I listed it and then changed my mind and put something else in its place. I think my feedback should let you know I understand the intricacies of ebay and once again, my perfect feedback as a seller shows I honor my bids.

Ah. Light dawns on Marble Head.

Seller listed with $888 BIN.
You bought it.
You listed it at $2195, then stopped the auction before anyone hit the BIN, then relisted the other guitar using the same auction #.

I guess my confusion was that in watching it I thought someone HAD hit YOUR BIN.

And again, I am not trying to say you're an evil seller or don't know what you're doing. I was just not understanding the sequence of events.

I better stick to root...third...root...third....

My friend bought it. He traded it to me. I listed it and changed my mind. Nothing sinister or conniving. No photo shop or smoke or mirrors. My photos were better and there was no attempt to conceal the fact that it had sold a few days previous--twice!!

Seriously, how this thing ended up in my home, in front of my amp, i'll never know. But I sure am glad it did. I'll enjoy it until that date when I need the money. So be nice to me or I'll sell it to George Gruhn. He won't be as merciful in resale as I would be.

max guitars...my apologies for assuming the worst...your situation is similar to mine...my imagination got the best of me this time.

It's rare that a guitar is sold and listed again so quickly for that kind of profit. We at the club tend to look out for each other as the Alembics are often a point of gravity for scammers as they are high dollar and high interest instruments.

After this unfortunate episode has passed, you might experience some unparalleled support from members here at the club.

...let me be the first to say (while I pull the foot from my mouth) ...welcome to the club.

again ...my apologies, I hope you understand.
respectfully,
elwoodblue

Welcome Max G. May I praise your patience and understanding as all manner of accusations were bandied about.... are you a relative of Dave H perchance? ;-) The other guys, it is good to know you are all vigilant and watching our backs. I don't think anyone will dare try to sell a dodgy Alembic shortly!

Max G.:

Nothing against you, but from my point of view, the way this all came down sucked.  Enjoy the bounty of my work.

Nothing came down. It was listed and bought. Period. I heard that it had been listed for a few hours and my friend was surprised nobody had snatched it up.

Regardless of any presumed deal you had, the seller didn't give a pinched nerve who bought it. He just wanted to be paid. Your beef is with him, not with my friend and certainly not with me.

But since you asked, yeah, it really is awesome.
