Nice bass (with an odd accusation)
« on: October 24, 2008, 12:17:41 PM »
Take a look at this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/CP-Thornton-5-string-bass-guitar-RARE-19-of-only-43_W0QQitemZ190261914434QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item19026191443

According to the seller, this is right up there with Alembic (who stole this design from Mr. Thornton).  Since Mr. Thornton started building these things in the mid-80s, I have to say that I am shocked to hear that Alembic was able to move forward in time to steal this design and bring it back to the 70s.  Wasn't there something better they could have done with this time travel power of theirs?

In any case, I thought Mica might want to look into this questionable and potentially libelous claim.

That said, looks like a pretty nice fiver for the money, though you never know til you see it in person.

Leave it to a Mainer!  Oooh, I should get nasty feedback on that one . . .

I e-mailed the seller and requested him to please remove his comment.  I seriously doubt Mica would pay much attention to this person.  Who knows where he got this idea.  Is he comparing it to an Excel or another model of Alembic that I am not very familar with?  Everyone 'stole' the electric bass idea from Leo Fender, so . . . .

Is this guy close to you?  If it were a medium scale, I'd be tempted.  I'm still looking for a short or medium five to tune EADGC...

Hey Bob:

If he were, I might not admit it.  He is a good six to seven hours away going south down I95, minimum.  He is not far from Portland.  Too far to go check the bass out for ya, if you were interested.
