Thx. So he uses a nut with narrower spacing. I thought the neck was actually thinned down and tapered..

The nut width is the same as a Jazz isn't it?

When I first read the auction and sent the question to Hal about the cable, case and powerpack, he responded that they weren't included, but the next day added them and increased the price.  When I read in his description Therefore, the price of this bass, can and will be revised until someone initialize the first bid... (don't expect a drop in price on revisions) I realized he doesn't understand the mechanics of auctions - his remark that people can enjoy watching the bid increase seem to indicate he thinks that people take pleasure in seeing prices go up - just be glad you were born who you are - takes all kinds!

Mike, Stanley's basses have an even smaller nut than a Jazz.  He uses a nut width of 1.4 as compared to 1.5 for a Jazz.

Look here for a good write-up of one of Stanley's basses.

PS-  If this were the NFL, I think the commissioner would have stepped in to have a chat with Hal by now.

Popcorn beverages within reach and I have been to the shop where they pretend to sell coffee ;-)  (though you can get good coffee there), can't wait to see this auction end :-)

To me watching the whole auction procedure(and the buzz it has created) has become a totally absurd, useless and even annoying issue by now. Raising the starting bid - actually acting somewhat as a bidder in a very odd way - may comply with ebay rules - yet I think it is abusive. I have never seen anybody do this before. Perhaps he feels entitled to act this very special way just by owning this very special bicentennial axe.

If anyone actually wants to buy this bass at the alleged $3500 price, or at any reasonable price, they should look up Hal's contact info and let him know.  He may not even know that this thread exists, and he certainly hasn't posted here.  He's in the process of placing an order for his dream bass, so he could really be interested in making a fair sale.

The rest of us should forget that this whole thing is even happening, or at least should watch quietly if we must.  The seller is one of our members, and even if he's doing something people don't approve of on another website, he shouldn't be publicly abused for it here.
