I have noticed many Alembic owners posting their prized instruments for sale lately, it is perhaps a cause and effect '  phonomina of the current status of the economy. Has any one else taken notice ? There will be of course those individuals that will refuse to accept the fact that they are not going to retrieve the amount  of money that they had originally paid for their Bass. This is likely true for any other  high end piece of merchandise.

If you bought your Alembic new, you are definitely going to take a beating if/when you try to sell it.  However, even in this economy the used instruments are holding their value.  I had socked away some money hoping to pick-up a few to flip in a couple of years, but the prices never got down to that level.

I recall it saying Series I on the listing originally.  Either one can edit a Craigslist listing, or my mind is playing tricks on me.
 
I believe the current prices have very little to do with retrieving the amount originally paid and more to do with attempting to make a profit.  Unless this guy was thoroughly hosed when he purchased the bass, he probably paid around $1000 for it.  Persuaders, when they were generally available in stores, were around $1000 back in the late 80's.  Until maybe two years ago, they've traded in the $750-1200 range based upon condition and extra features.  Lately, basses that sold for $1200 are now commanding $2000.  Unless Entwistle owned and autographed this thing, I can't see too many circumstances that would lead anyone to legitimately pay $5K for a typical Persuader.

You can definitely edit a Craigslist posting.  I do remember seeing Series I in the original listing, as well.

There can  be at times circumstances where a seller has  had an instrument completely refurbished with additional custom features_(neck LEDS perhaps) and is trying to retrieve not only what was paid for the instrument but the cost of all the work that they had done. i have seen the same scenario over and over again  when it comes to the resale of  high end and custom  motor vehicles.This course of motive does not illustrate any malice in forethought but is certainly not realistic. i do however agree largely with the statement from bsee.
