Dragon magic at Guitar Rez in Austin
« on: May 05, 2009, 11:08:33 AM »
I wish I could consider this, but I just bought a Series I. Dragon magic is being offered for $7249.

I thought others might miss that this is available. It looks like a really nice guitar.

I feel a karmic connection to this particular instrument.  A few years ago I won it for a very cheap price on a fraudulent ebay auction.  Just after the auction closed I received an email from Mica warning me of the fraud.  Thus began my friendship with the Wickershams, Alembic elves, and denizens of this forum.  Anyone have a spare $7k to donate? lol

I wonder how much lighter this one is than the one I have. Mine is a monster, but it's wonderful.

It sure looks heavy to me.  Cocobolo top and back plus brass plates is a lot of weight to start with.  My similar construction SC bass weighs about 13 lbs, though there is a stripe of ebony down the neck.

Sure Bill, but I'll need it back by next Tuesday. (Family night and they like to play Monopoly).

I love that Coco Bolo.  Elaborate inlays aren't usually my cup of tea, but I could possibly make an exception.  (Oh wait, I don't have a spare $7k, nevermind).

That guitar has been firmly fixed in my mind since I saw it on the featured custom years ago. It is just the thing I have in mind for basing my my 50th birthday custom build on subject to finances.  But that would be a fantastic alternative purchase.

I wonder why it's being sold.

You can get the inlay in mop without the different materials for a bit of savings.

Elaborate inlays like that are not my thing either. One or two elegantly placed inlays are fine. The inlays on that guitar and Stan's bass are incredible pieces of artwork but a bit ostentatious for my simple tastes. It does set the guitar off nicely though. That said if I had the cash to buy that guitar as a used instrument, the inlays wouldn't really put me off.
If I was having a custom build from scratch, the price of having them put in ( $6000 as per quote generator) would scare me as they are not sound improving items.  I guess you could always get a new fretboard installed and frame the existing one for display.

It is incredibly close to my dream guitar that my credit card is getting scared.....!!!
