At $777 buy it now, I severely doubt it... those Texas bolt-ons we've seen barely reach the $250 line, I severely doubt somebody would be fool enough to spend $777  just on the logo. Or at least I want to think so...
 
How come is this guy so sure it comes from a Series 1?

Mica and the gang should buy this up, to prevent that Deal on E-bay for a fake Alembic, The logo looks real, guess I'll buy

Guessing he may be thinking that as his story goes, he got this in '75 and there weren't many other types of Alembic in production really at that time, perhaps?

That logo is not from 1975.  That is a cast logo.  In 1975 they were hand cut sterling silver.  The cast logos did not appear until mid to late 1977 if my memory seves me.
 
Also, if he had it on a chain I would think it would be quite uncomfortable.  There should be three mounting posts on the back of the logo that should secure it to the instrument.  If those posts were removed to make a pendant of it then it is ruined in my opinion.  I guess it could be put back on an instrument without the posts, but securing it would be tricky.

Looks like $77.00, not $777.00. I could see it as being a worthy purchase as jewelry. If buying it as an Alembic enthusiast, you would certainly recognize it being off-placed on a non-Alembic instrument.
 
I mean, who would pay $777.00 for a piece of silver that weighs less than a small (diamond-less) wedding ring?  Not even a Series emblem warrants that.

The picture on the black background appears to have an area that looks like it used to have a ring soldered to it. This makes me suspect it is a broken Alembic pendant.

I believe Mica stated that Alembic previously sold these pendants as jewelry, which is what I am more inclined to believe is what we are seeing here.  
 
As for the paranoia, there were some pretty deliberate copies of Alembic's made by Kawai, and there have always been fears that someone will get scammed into buying a $750 dollar instrument for several thousand dollars.  No one wants to see that happen.

Hydrargyrum - That is exactly right.  I know for a fact that there is a Fernandes copy of a Series 1 with an Alembic logo on it here in New Orleans.

There are obviously some inconsistencies in the story presented by the seller.  
 
It's hard to see the pendant ring, but I feel you can almost see it too. We used to sell them until they wound up on many a Fernandes. Now we sell them only directly mounted by us if your own logo is stolen.  
 
The buy it now price was $777, but that went away after the first bid was placed.

Inconsistencies is probably an understatement :-)  'Woke up with Sunshine, from Roxy Club, on Sunset in Malibu - and after breakfast .....'. The seller, not being a musician, was told by a musician that what he had on his neck was not a STD, but in fact an emblem from an Alembic Series I instrument!
 
What a great story, and perhaps 'Sunshine' gave it to him because it really didnt't fit into any of her wardrobe.
 
I guess I always see things from a slightly skewed viewpoint and rarely take anything at face value.
 
I actually have an inclination to ask the seller for Sunshine's number to see if she has any more Alembic stuffs :-)

I was the high bidder on this item. The seller explains that it is, indeed, a logo and not a pendant. If that is the case, I'll be returning it to Santa Rosa where it won't be able to cause any trouble. If it can be worn as a pendant, I will do so proudly. Either way, no Fernandes or Kawai will be able to masquerade as an Alembic with this thing!
