Not me. It looks like a piece of salt water taffy that's gone horribly wrong IMHO. It may sound like electric Jesus dipped in butter, but I can't get over the shape.

Then again, it may float someone else's boat, so more power to them.

Good luck finding strings - 35 scale plus most of a foot from bridge to tail.

I am continually amazed at Ritter. This is the kind of thing you need to push design and imaginations into other places. Some of his shapes (like this) are design at the expense of ergonomics, but like exotic cars or couture fashion, what's practical got to do with it? And like most 'out there' designers, over time the market will decide if there's a place for it.

I do respect that like Alembic, he builds his own hardware (though I'm not sure of his relationship with ETS) and pickups.

But if Phil really paid $40K for his if I remember the recent Bass Player article correctly, this would be a bargain, though I probably wouldn't show up at the Opry with it!

I love the look of Ritters, except this one. and the only other Ritter I heard live -- the guy from moe. -- sounded great.

but Phil's Ritter bass to my ear lacks most of the low-end punch that his Moduluses and Alembics had. It has tremendous clarity, tone and awesome midrange twang, but no low end. Makes it tough to drop bombs ... I wasn't sure The Other One had started last year in Philly.

Eye of Horus inlay is wicked cool though.

This May explain why he's stop playing his Ritter,
he was playing it at the start of futhur and for a quick song at his bday bash in S.F. but other than that he's seems to like his Modulus more. As a fan in the crowd I have to say, I like the sound of the Modulus better

With all due respect to Phil, my greatest bass influence, I'm really glad to hear that.

In light of this, maybe this new Eye of Horus is the backup Phil ordered right after he got the first one? I think that was mentioned in his Bass Player profile last year.

One other thing ... it weighs 12 pounds. While light for a 6 string, it's still heavy.

I have a Ritter Classic; it looks just like Rob Derhak's (the guy from moe.), except mine has 5 strings, and I can say it is a VERY FINE instrument. One reason the strings are so long on the Eye of Horus design is in an attempt to get the strings' tensions equal. Or so I've heard. It may not please the eye of most folks but Jens Ritter may be onto something that has value to some players.
