And what's the Phish connection? Sounds like someone was confused with Languedoc...

May make a stab at this one.  I believe Languedoc worked for them for awhile.

Paul Languedoc worked for Time Guitars in the early 1980s, before he became the sound man for Phish in fall 1986. While at Time, Paul built at least two custom guitars for Trey Anastasio of Phish that I know of. His famous hollowbodies for Trey came later.

The first Time guitar Paul built for Trey was a mini travel guitar. You can hear it on early Phish live tapes, sounds a little like a mandolin.

The second, delivered in spring 1986, was a Strat-style guitar with a solid walnut body. It had tremendous tone and sustain but was heavy as hell.

The Time guitar on ebay, however, cannot have been a Languedoc if it's ca. 1979. Paul was in college in Maine at the time. He graduated in 1981.

But the ebay example clearly shows that Paul was influenced by his time at Time. Note the binding in particular.

No Alembic connection I'm aware of.

Thanks for the clarification - I didn't look closely enough, got stuck on moonstone which also has no relation?...

The back of that guitar is VERY similar looking to the carved back on my Langudeoc g4. You can tell where Paul got the influence from. Also a very similar neck attachment.

I can't belive that this sold for $3500!  Spamming unrelated names pays off!  I've played a couple Time guitars and was interested at around $700 to be honest.

I can't believe that got so high either. Last time I saw a Time for sale was 700 as well. Granted it had a bolt on neck, but I guess its just a collectors thing. Time collectors are so few and far between I bet you had every one of them in the world fighting for this one.

This guitar has a bit of an unfortunate backstory... check out the post here: http://www.timeguitars.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=184

That makes me really sad. The people who sold the guitar shouldn't have gone through with the auction, there is no doubt it is the EXACT same guitar!
