Brown Bass & Distillate
« on: June 09, 2012, 09:29:11 PM »
Both a Brown Bass and what appears to be a very nice Maple Distillate are being offered in Port Richie, FL at very reasonable prices.  Are they worth a look or is this another scam? Something seems a bit amiss to me.

From what I've seen (I cruise the used market quite a bit), 3500 OBO for the Brown with LED's seems to be a great deal!
And, it appears to be in really great shape.

The OBO makes it even better....

Ok, I found them both;

For this Distillate , For $1800.00 , I would grab it for my self (immediately) after doing a serial number scan to make sure that it is NOT stolen merchandise .  In fact I have just contacted the lister . I think we have seen this one for sale not that long ago on this board.

I also have contacted the lister early this morning.  Yet to hear from him.
Hopefully, this will be my very first Alembic.

Sorry for forgetting to include the link.

I'm going back and forth on the brown bass myself.  It's that or a build. The brown would be close to what I want but...the question is whether I want to wait 9 months and spend the dollars to get what I REALLY want or and am I willing to make do with something that is close. Yoga..I posted primarily because I knew you were looking for a Distillate.  Good luck with contacting the seller and let's hope that this results in a sale.. Wolf, if you're interested in the Brown go for it.  I'm still going back and forth with Mica and Will Gunn to see what a new build would cost me so I'm not ready to pull the trigger in the next day or so (although a Brown bass in good condition for $3500 is a good deal given that I've seen Distillates and Spoilers going for close to that on EBay).

Brian , I noticed the Distillate might be one that I have considered purchasing a while back .

Yoga, if you want the Distillate ,go for it . This might be one that has had a much higher asking price previously. If you acquire it , I congratulate you on your first Alembic !  I like Distillates as well for many reasons.

@ sonicus.....I'm interested in the Distillate.  This is muy first choice for my first Alembic.
The Dis scale is longer (compared to the Brown), which appeals to me as well.  I'm used to larger bodies (basses only here...lol), and the smaller body and shorter scale of the Brown is somewhat of a double negative.
I have chatted via email with a delightful gentleman in regard to a Dis (it's dead nuts exactly what I'm after), but I'm dealing with Euros and I'm looking at nearly $3900 given the cxurrent exchange rate with shipping. For that, I've found a quite nice Series I (32), should I wish to purchase.  However, I'm looking at a pwr supply issue with the Series.

I've still yet to hear from the Fl. Craigslist Distillate (and Brown) individual.

Although I'm not an avid fisherman, I've done enough to know that if I miss one I just keep casting and, eventually, I'll hook a keeper  )

@ hammer.....thanks much for the post!  I rarely (but have in the past) cruised CL, but became weary of the continuous searches city-by-city to find the Holy Grail. Is there a way to search nationally on the main CL site?
Meanwhile, in regard to the Dis + car --- YES!

Ahhhh, the thrill of the chase!

Btw, question.....Bass Central has a slew of Stanley's, but none have the multi pin...just a quarter inch.  What's the deal???

Yoga:

I use the JAXED MASH instrument site that searches all Cl listings. See URL below. It will provide both CL, Gear Base, and Ebay listings.  If its a CL listing you'll need click on the Craiggers link or copy and paste the original link that's also provided. The site works well at the current time but there was a recent interruption in the service because of a hassle between the JAXed provided CL and Ebay,so who knows how long this will last.

@ hammer.....tons of thanks!

Btw, I just spoke with Craig (Dis and Brown owner in Fl.).  Nice guy, owns several Alembics.

I bought the Dis.  I'll email you his number, should you wish to talk to him about the Brown.

Cool!

Jay Michael:

Congratulations! You have officially joined the ranks. It looks like a VERY nice example of a Distillate and that was a great price (about $500-700 less than I've seen them be sold for on EBay). I love my Distillate and it's nice to know that if my wife makes me put my Distillate up for sale in order to purchase a new bass, there's one less person out there who will want to buy it so I won't have to over price it quite as high to make sure than no one purchases it.(haha)

@ hammer.....thanks so much!

Logistically, it couldn't have worked out better (one reason I knew it was to be).
I have a brother living just south of New Port Richey (in Dunedin).
---call seller and give him my brother's #
---said brother picks it up and pays
---said brother takes to UPS and ships to Casa de Jay.
---oh yeh....don't forget to pay brother back!

My 60 years of hanging out has (finally) taught me to not count my chicks before they hatch.  But, looks like the gestation period is about over.

Pics, etc. will surely be posted.  Stand by ~~~
