Paul's Bonnie......
« on: April 28, 2011, 11:02:57 AM »
Hi Guys,
I hope you all are doing well. Was a bit away from the forum....
Well, I just saw that Edwin van Huik has Paul's Bonnie up for sale...
Hmm, sad memories come to my mind again....
I wish I had the money to buy Bonnie and to play her......
Maybe some of you guys would give Bonnie a new home?
Greetings
Oliver (Spyderman)

Well, I guess it was inevitable.

I miss Paul.

His spirit can live on in Bonnie.

Glad to see you posting, Oliver.

Oh this is sad. Inevitable I guess, but so, so sad.

I miss Paul too. I don't get to post here very often anymore (as I don't currently own an Alembic I sometimes feel a bit of a fraud) but when I do I still half expect some amusing reply from him. Regardless, I often think of him. RIP brother.

Let's hope Bonnie goes to a good and loving home.

Well friends, be assured Bonnie has found a good and loving home and it stays within the confines of this caring Alembic family. I am honoured to announce that I am the one who will put Bonnie to good use in doing what it was so marvellously made for: being played! I'll treat it with TLC to make sure it leads a long and healthy life, with respect for and in remembrance of our friend Paul.

I've always understood, but now I can firmly subscribe to why Paul was so in love with this bass. Not only is it mindblowingly gorgeous, it is also the best playing and sounding instrument I have ever played!! I can't imagine to ever part with it.

Here's to you Paul!

Nice to hear that she found a home where she will be loved and cherished.

A toast to you, Duncan, and to our much-missed brother Paul.  May you and Bonnie have a long life of music-making together.

Thanks for your comments and support guys!!

You know, it could have easily become awkward or some kind of burden to become the new safekeeper of Paul's precious, especially after reading  different speculations about where Bonnie would or should end up. Trust me, I would have probably been the last one to predict Bonnie to end up with me. So for a split second I felt somewhat reluctant to announce the new ownership. But then again, knowing how respectful and supportive this community has always been to its fellow members, it instantly felt comfortable to share. I was confident you would be supportive upon this announcement, especially when you'd sense how important this instrument and Paul's legacy are to me, probably as much as they are to you.

Again, thanks.

For me, I think Paul TBO would have wanted her to be PLAYED.  Memorials and tombstones are meant for cemeteries.  I do think it's fitting she'll stay home in The Netherlands.  So Duncan, you wear her out and I'll be quite certain that's what Paul would have been doing.  To me there's nothing worse than a great guitar or bass being a 'collector' piece:  They were born to sing.  That you're mindful an respectful of her provenance is a great comfort.
