I plan to take a drive down either Wednesday or Thursday to check it out. The maple body core appeals to me greatly as two of my basses have maple cores and I love what it does to the sound.

I see they ship to Australia.
It sure is breathtaking!
I wonder how much I could get for my fretless?
3,950.00 GBP   =   7,102.57 AUD
Not enough I guess.
Anyone want to buy a 1975 long scale fretless for say.........$7,102.57?
It's really rare only 2 ever made!

Yeah, Im gonna take my SC Deluxe and maple ?lan so I have a reference and a degree of sensibility checking. As there would be no point in considering a purchase unless there was something the bass offered that I didn't already have in a 4 stringer.  My ears are still ringing from the good advice you and Will Gunn gave me when i was thinking of buying another non series bass.

I do think however I should be able to find a use series I or II in good condition for that price.

Good advice never goes out of style! Don't let the beauty of this bass alter your dream for a Series shorty!

It won't although I may mean off loading my maple ?lan if this bass has the same kind of punch. I prefer short scale in a 4 string bass now.

Just got back from the shop. It certainly is as you would expect, a superb bass. Nothing wrong with it at all.

However as an existing alembic owner any new alembic bass would have to justify it's place in my pack. So with that in mind I didn't find anything there that I didn't have with my existing SC Deluxe. I was a bit surprised that the effect of the maple was not as pronounced in terms of punch and brightness as it is with my long scale basses.

That could be because it was strung with light gauge strings. The bass apparently has two fat boy pickups, if that is indeed the case well that could explain why the sweetness I was expecting is not as evident as the standard pickups.

The neck is slimmer back to front than my bass though the overall width feels the same as mine. It's also lighter.

If I didn't have a SC Deluxe then I would buy it but I'd want a discount.
if you are thinking of buying it, then buy with confidence it's a great instrument in as new condition. I only spotted one tiny, and i mean minuscule ding on the body.
