76 Series I short scale Craigslist

This looks like a great deal for anyone looking for a short scale series bass. $3,500 with an anvil case and master volume. Located in Santa Monica, CA no idea if they will ship.

Sorry about forgetting the link... still waking up, tea hasn't kicked in yet.

At least someone else found the link and posted it quickly. The ad is currently less than a day old. Hoping someone in the club is able to snatch this one up.

A short scale sounds interesting to me but never played one.  I have 2 medium scale Alembics and sometimes that first fret is a little bit of a stretch.  I don't have a problem but remembered hearing Phil Lesh's new 6-string is a short scale.  I assume there is no difference in tone but wondering if anyone can comment on playability or other factor differences relative to a medium scale, especially for those of us with older older shoulders?  Also, I assume there aren't many used that come available, especially in 5 or 6-string model basses?

The posting has been deleted? At least that's what my search indicated.

I was able to buy the bass.  The price was too good to be true, so I was there first thing in the morning.  Guess what, it had LEDs too!  Condition was great and everything worked.  I spent some time setting it up and replacing the disintegrated foam in the case, and it was one of the best short scales I have had come through the shop.  I had a client in mind for it, but once I registered the bass with Mica, she saw that there was a standing order for this instrument to be reunited with the original owner who sold it back in the early 1980's.  Mica got him in touch with me,  we worked out a deal, and the bass is now back in the hands of the guy who bought it in 1976.  Crazy huh?

That must have been quite the week so far for you!  What a great story.  Even though I was beaten to the punch (emailing from Wisconsin vs. arriving in-person), I'm quite happy to hear the way it ended up.  Cheers!

The bass did have some modifications the original owner had done in 1983.  He updated the hardware, the circuit, the pickups, added the master volume, and had a crack in the headstock repaired.  Mica of course had all the info that confirmed what I saw on the bass.  The owner also told me he had the neck shaved at some point, A Carruthers refret,  that he replaced the pickups a couple of times due to wear, and had a few circuits replaced as well over the years.  The good thing is the bass looked exactly like it did when he sold it back in the 80s.  It was extremely clean.
