Unreal.

He was a friend, a brother, an inspiration, and our patron at the very beginning of our creative lives. We owe him more than what can be counted or added up- his was a mind that refused to accept limits, and he reinforced in us that striving for the infinite, the refusal to accept the status quo, that has informed so much of our work.

What sad news.  Bear's DNA lives on through Alembic, which never would have existed without him, as well as the Grateful Dead extended family, friends, and fans.  Somehow it seems absurd that such an amazing life would be snuffed out by something as mundane as a car crash.  I'm sure I join all of the Alembic family in sending my deepest condolences to Owsley's family and friends.

May the Four Winds blow you safely Home.

Bill, tgo

Thanks for posting this news.  Thinking about the flow of events and the role Owsley played, to one degree or another, in the lives of so many.

Wow.....So sad indeed.... My deepest condolences to those in Santa Rosa whom he still kept in touch with.

I knew he had a health scare several years ago, so to echo Bill's thought~ to be lost to an auto accident just doesn't compute.

Cheers, Bear!

One of only 2 pix I've ever seen of Bear (um, he's the one on the left).  While I never met him, and his influence on my life was, perhaps, not as direct as I would have liked (if you catch my drift), there is no doubt that I would not be the person I am now without him.  Condolences to all he touched, and especially to his friends & family.

How sad. Just 2 days ago I was on his website reading all the sonically (and Chemically) amazing things he's done and now he's gone.

I agree that a car crash doesn't seem right for the Alice D. Millionaire.

Been in a bit of a haze here yesterday and today.

This was from a visit just days before Erik was born. Like many of us these days, he was taking notes with his camera of some art pieces that my uncle Bob and I had made.

We will miss Bear.
