I'm on facebook (Samuel Sheats) and have encountered so many players and innovative luthiers -- magic resides in the minds and hands of many throughout this wonderful planet -- that they constitute 2/3 of my friends.

But when I have a music-oriented question THIS is the only resource I'd even dream of accessing. You guys are the very best from top to bottom.

And the pictures on this site are also second to none!

Can you ever have enough friends? I think the moniker is inappropriate for people who you have never met or shared experience with. Other than a love for Alembic instruments and associated activities, knowledge and anecdotes, what makes us friends? My friends I can count on one hand with a finger left over. Granted, I am a self-proclaimed and quite happy hermit, so I'm no expert, but it seems the term friend has lost some significance in favor of cache'. Sites like Facebook make me nuts because I neither care or need to know every little detail of the days of people with whom I am, at best, peripherally involved with. OMG

Interesting. You took the time to comment. All I can say is life is what you make it.You get what you give. You know the cliches. But they are all true (that's why they've been around so long,).In some regard you are right.Maybe they should call it Associates instead. That being said, you could never get to know anyone on Facebook from the info they have posted. Its controlled and manipulated.A persons character is defined by actions, not words (sorry, another cliche). However,I don't think you can have to many friends(of course that depends on how narrowly you define friend). How you catagorize them is a personal matter, and honestly not subject to anyone elses judgement.Just a thought.....no ill will or soap box intended.=)

I have to say that Facebook and the internet in general has created friendships for me. There are people now with whom I have ongoing conversations and have developed great relationships. I know that some of them I will never meet in real life, but in every case in which I have met them, it's been great. It's not that far off from people I've met here or elsewhere online. I know some of these people will be friends for the rest of my life and if I arrived destitute on their doorstep, they'd take me in and I'd do the same for them. When you travel as a musician there are tons of opportunities to meet a lot of people and having facebook allows that community to keep in touch and get together as we criss-cross the country. I guess it might be different for people who don't travel or gig much. So, I'm out there on facebook, send a request!

me too, Christian Spiecker...

I am wasting far too much time in these social networks... but hey, isn't this some kind of SN, too ? My love for Alembics led me over the pond for three times now, and I've met wonderful folks in Dallas, Fort Worth and Chicago... so far, LOL ! Life's a wonderful journey, keep your eyes and your mind open !

low notes forever, Christian
