It would be my guess that with most digital cameras you can adjust both image size and image quality; both of which have an effect on the number of pictures that available memory will hold. It would seem that this particular camera was set for a larger size and a lesser quality. Gil has emailed me another picture, which I was able to reduce in size without losing too much detail, and to which I did a little touching up.
