Hey Number 12

Good to hear from you. Last minute thing I got called in on. It is a Tea bar in Oakland that was celebrating it's 5th anniversary in business. Got a chance to do a lot of standards and such, that is why the spectacles are on top of my head. We were doing a version of All Blues when this picture was taken. We also do a really funky version of Mercy, Mercy, Mercy which always gets the mainly subdued crowd up on their feet and dancing. This is the only tune that I play the Alembic on and set the stage on fire with my dazzling chops and lightning licks. Anyway nice gig that payed very well and though you can't see them there were some very nice friendly women there as well. Yeah Baby!

Nope ...title doesn't ring a bell. Maybe when I hear it. But I am no dazzler nor lightner at all, tough my guitar is ! HEHEHEHE

Rory, great pic! That must be the refinished SI. Oakland shines a little brighter when you play, man. Do you do the Crusaders' Way back home?

Paul; we've added All Blues to the extended list and for coffee house gigs. We played it last time out for the first time. That sure is a nice looking Alembic in the picture!

Hey Guys

My health is good and the Alembic is sweeeet! I did get that bass refinished and it surprises me every day with its sonic capabilities. As far as tunes go Way back home is a nice piece and I might throw that out there the next time I get a gig. As far as Oakland shining when I play, I just want to make sure your'e not making a crack about the lights and the top of my head. Anyway, It is nice to get out and play on occassion!

Hi Rory,

Would I be right in thinking you're using a Dean Pace EUB in the photo?.I've been wanting to check one out for a while but haven't had a chance to yet.

The reviews I've seen are all favourable but I'd really appreciate the opinion of someone like yourself who's actually using one in a live setting.I used to own an EUB that was a fairly accurate copy of Sting's Van Zalinge bass,but the Dean is very different.I'd welcome your thoughts about it whenever you have time.

Hey Simon

I really enjoy this instrument. I think for the price you pay and what you get this is one heck of a bargin. I find I like the tone better through a solid state pre-amp versus the tube pre-amp it gets a little to dark and warm with the tubes. Being that it has a 35 inch scale length playing it is also really easy. Set-up is a breeze and portability is nice and easy on the back and space in your vehicle. I have gotten compliments for the tone the couple of times that I have played it out so if you ask me it is a great tool to have in your tool belt!

Many thanks for that.

I can identify with the pre-amp comment.My old EUB reacted differently to various amplifiers,(or vice-versa),as you'd expect.However the times I felt happiest with the sound were the gigs where I played it through solid state G-K's or Ampegs.
