Author Topic: Management working on an East Coast USA Tour April (Read 296 times)

I play guitar with Asian Indian Reggae Crossover star, Apache Indian and we have recently had a tour schedule email from the management showing that they are working on an east coast tour in the USA sometime April/May this year.

Will let you know beforehand when things are confirmed and if you want to come along that would be great. I plan to bring over my Orion guitar subject to me finding a suitable overdrive/distortion pedal otherwise it will be the tried and trusted Strat or both depending on equipment restrictions.

Well we just got told this morning we, (Apache Indian & The Reggae Revolution Band), are playing at the 7th Annual Bob Marley Festival at Universal Studio's Florida this Saturday 18th February 2006.

We fly out to Florida this Friday 17th, do the gig on Saturday then get the plane on Sunday back to England.

Should be a mad fast and tiring weekend.
And................I have decided to take my Orion guitar with me.

I'll have to find a wrench for the truss rod in case it moves due to the weather difference between cold England and Florida. There wasn't one in the case when I got the guitar.

The last time I flew with a guitar, (carry on travel guitar), they took my allen wrenches away at the airport. No tools of any kind allowed. Have a great gig.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised. However i have a flight case for my effects and stuff like that so it will go in there.

Usually I take my Strat as well which has its own flight case and as it goes in the hold its ok to have small tools in there. Although the case has been opened by security many times, fortunately nothing has gone missing or got damaged or confiscated.

Will that be your only Florida gig? Drop me a line if you come back to Jacksonville. Your website at one time had a photo of you in the old Milk Bar downtown. I don't think it's still there. Hope your trip is smooth and all goes well.

Yeah this trip is a fly out, gig, fly back one.
Not sure where the next tour will be. Only that its on the east coast. However these things can change.
Yeah I remember the old milkbar. That was my first ever gig in the USA in 1992.

Well that is a good question Paul. In actual fact I was setting up the guitar last night and after changing strings, intonation action. ( not the neck, it seems fine where it is, and I dont have a wrench yet. The metric ones didnt fit) .

i decided to have a look in the back cavity, and there was this little blue thingy with a white slot that looks like the gain control i have read Mica's comments on adjusting. So I tweaked it to the letf and tried it with my existing Pro-com rat and YIPEEEEE its fine.

I've tweaked it just a bit more so that its about a third of the way round.

guess before the output from the guitar was a bit too hot for the rat pedal to deal with.

I have to say, there is some serious gain on that pot. On full its meaty but still incredibly clean.

I can now get the same warm creamy tones that I like.

I'm a happy bunny. I can't wait to hear how it sounds on a big stage.

Will let you know how the gig goes.

Bassfingers: As for playing in the states. Until last year the only time I'd ever played in the states was in 1992 when I toured there with Pato Banton. Its a fantastic place to play and in general the audiences are very responsive to bands from the UK.

I guess also this gig is a good showcase for us to get more tours going in the future in the states.

Ok final post before I leave, we are scheduled on stage at 16:00 on Saturday afternoon.

We are also going to be backing another reggae artiste called Half Pint. ( I have never heard of him to be honest) . We have a rehearsal with him on Saturday evening and back him on his slot on Saturday. Thats gonna be an interesting experience to back someone at such short notice.

Hi guys just got back from gig in Florida. Fantastic time. Gig was great and so was the crowd and the other bands, Half Pint and Morgan Heritage.

My alembic sounded well crisp and sparkly. I am well chuffed with it. As soon as I got it out of the case the stage guys were all round it like bees round a honey pot.

During our sound check the lead guitarist from Morgan Heritage came over from what he was doing to ask me about the guitar, commenting on how fantastic it sounded. ( he was using a Tom Anderson strat type guitar).
He didnt play my alembic but had a grip of the neck to feel the action and said .....Nice very nice.

He said he'd never heard of Alembic so I explained its the same company that makes Stanley Clarkes basses then he asked where did they make them. I told him, who knows maybe he will check one out.

As for the Rat Pedal, it sounded sort of ok but it was going through a roland JC120 and i think if i'd have been able to use the Fender Blues Devillle or Marshall stack on stage then it would have been fine. I've found overdrives a bit buzzy in rolands in the past.

I'm gonna have to work with it a bit more before I decide on another pedal.
