Well next week start the first leg of the 2006 world tour as guitarist for Apache Indian.

We are doing a USA tour this summer which subject to confirmation of dates will take in parts of June and July.

We also have some dates in England and lots of mainland Europe dates including, Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Czech Republic, Slovenia and more.

September we are in India for a long stretch which should be an amazing experience as that country is somewhere I've always wanted to visit.

If you are around the area's we are touring this year give me a shout and if the band guest list isn't full I can try to get your name on. ( Numbers are limited usually but .....hey). ( email me with your name and venue)

Other than that It would be good to meet some fellow Alembic owners and good to get some feedback on our shows.

I'm also hoping we get some dates, and crucially some days off near the Alembic factory so I can get a tour of the place. I Will have to leave my credit card back at base in case I get tempted to max it out there.

Oh yes I almost forgot to mention, I am taking my Orion guitar on the road this year instead of my strat :-), unfortunately I can't take a backup this year due to weight restrictions. So it's Alembic or nothing.......

Hi guys, I'm now in Linz, Austria. Last night we did a fantastic gig to a full house at a music festival in Hannover. Today we travelled down to Berlin then had a 3 hour drive down tl Linz Austria where we have just finished sound check.
I have noubt that today will be just as good as last night.

At soundcheck yesterday the sound was really heavy and boomy,loads of reverb in the room as it was all big square and concrete. By the time the crowd got in there, the sound improved immensely.

My Orion guitar was great, sounded nice crisp and powerful.

Hi again guys, the tour is almost at its end. We did a great gig again in Vienna last night. Tonight we travel to Graz for the last concert before we leave for the flight back to England on Friday.
The orion has been great sounds fantastic. I love it to bits.

If I'm not mistaken, Joe Zawinul is from Vienna and I have heard he has a club here called Birdland. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time there to go and look for it.

Here are a few photo's from the tour last week. Nice shots of my Orion Guitar. So far this year we have been back to its place of birth USA and then back to Germany which is where I originally purchased it from. The guitar sounds as good as it looks.

Look I can stand at a funny angle too.....

I bought some packs of Elixir 9-42 gauge strings to take on the road and they were fantastic. I was able to use the same set for the whole week and they sounded great, no corrosion or noticeable loss of tone either. I did however break a b-string on the last concert of the tour in the middle of a 4 minute song. Thanks to the tailpiece design and I was able to re-string, stretch and tune up before the song finished. Fortunately the other strings kept their pitch once the B-string was tuned up. Jazzy:

Using 9's, huh? Are you doing more rhythm or lead work? How full do the 9's sound for chording? I've never liked 9's for rhythm work, I use 10's, except for 9.5's on my PRS. 9's always seem too thin for rhythm, but then again, I've never tried them on an Alembic. If any pickups could bring out tone in 9's, I guess it would likely be Alembics. By the way, are you guys going to make it out to the West Coast?

Great photos Jazzy. Wow, you had a B string handy? Talk about planning for anything. I'm lucky to be able to grab an extra pick if I drop one.

Bill - great reference =) - I always more of an Addams Family fan, though.

I used only 10's until i got my Strat ultra, which came with 9's and i just loved the sound. I also use 9's on my Orion.

I don't find them too thin at all. I play with a very heavy pick either a Jim Dunlop 3.0mm Stubby or a similar width marble pick. They give me more volume and a warmer sound and because neither of them flex I always know where the end of the pick is, something I can't be sure of with a flexible plectrum.

Another problem i find with lighter picks is that you can hear the plectrum slap the strings before the note which is a sound I don't like.

In this band I'm playing exclusively reggae, mainly chord chops, some melody and mirroring the bass line on some tracks and the odd solo.

For most songs I tend to play the orion on the neck pickup which again gives me a more meaty sound.
When finger picking I go for the mid position to give me a bit more bite and sparkle.

The Elixir strings feel a bit heavier and thicker than a standard 9 gauge and I use them mainly for their longevity on the road. When not touring I use D'addario xl's 9-42.
Strangely enough most times i break a string its either the 2nd or 3rd string and rarely the little e-string.
I always carry spare sets and if one string breaks, I always change the full set before the next gig.

If you are in the south east, (England), this weekend, we are doing a gig for a 90's music weekend at Butlins, Bognor Regis. on Saturday night. The gig is also being filmed so I will definately have my Orion with me for that gig.
