Jimmy, what's the story on that gig?  Time, etc?  You gonna be playing the Series?  I'd come check that out.  Ways got a website or myspace thingy?

Off the top of my head, favorite name for a venue was the Sit 'N Spin (old laundromat in Seattle), and favorite name for a bar- Retox.

I can't stand Arlene's. My band DROVE with our whole stage show to NY for a few shows. Arlene's gave us a 30 person quota-ie. we get paid if 30 people showed up. We brought 28 people and Arlene's was over an hour behind getting us onstage. We rocked the house, the other 2 local bands brought 7 and 13 people, and Arlene's refused to give us one dime. 800 miles in a van and this bar can't come up with $100 even for gas or something? Ridiculous. Have fun at the gig.

If there is one theorem of live music, it is that most club owners will do anything and everything they can to kill it.  ;)

I once heard that Chuck Berry flies to the city, rents a car, drives to the venue, and sits in the car until they come out and pay him - cash.  Then he comes in and plays.  Burned too often.

To paraphrase an old saying about practicing criminal law:

The 3 universal rules of Gigging:

1.  Get the money up front.

2.  Never believe a word the club owner says.

3.  Get the money up front.

Bill, tgo

(Of course I break these rules all the time)

Well, we did OK money wise (drew 60+ people), but the girls in our band post their own person at the door to watch the take and make sure we get our numbers.  They're pretty smart, them girls.  Here's the email Arlene's sent before that gig, I mentioned in a previous post I though it was pretty harsh.  You telling me if we bring 29 people spending an average of 20 bucks each on drinks we get nothing?

I Like Orange will be playing the Knitting Factory next month, I'll post that when I know the details.

If I Like Orange brings 30 or more people the club takes first
>>$80 (10 People) and then the artist gets 80% after that.
>>
>>- If I Like Orange brings less than 30 people the club keeps 100%
>>
>> ATTENTION: Bands are paid at the END OF THE NIGHT, not directly
>>after their show as in the past.
>>
>>We expect at least 30 through the door, which means each band
>>member is responsible for a certain amount of folks to pay. This
>>will ensure a re-booking.
>>
>>- One drink ticket per band member

I've never seen a club in Texas that would pay up front. We always got paid at the end of the night in CASH, unless we knew the club pretty well then it would on the last night there of the week.
I've never been stiffed before but we did have to send in Guido a few times.
