Scotland's hottest covers band (not my words) will be playing at the Torphichan arms in Mid Calder this Friday from 9pm.
If you've heard of our new Anti Social Behaviour Order - ASBO, Mid Calder is where the first ever one was issued. It hasn't calmed down since. Mike Pisanek's band escaped unscathed last week, hopefully we will too!

They don't have chicken wire around the stage do they?  Good luck.  Is this the place?

Indeed it is Sam although nowadays the doorways are crowded with smokers (since Scotland banned smoking indoors). I can't even begin to wonder whay a floridian has a picture of a pub in scotland to hand. Something George has sent you perhaps?

I've gotten a lot of photos from George but this isn't one of them.  It wasn't at hand but I do have a fast internet connection.  We have the same smoking ban in Florida.  It's a state by state law in the US.  Some have it, some may not.

Clarification:  The ban doesn't blanketly cover bars.  Only if a certain percentage of their business is food.  If all they sell is alcohol then people can smoke themselves silly.

Silly is probably not an accurate description of the result of smoking cigarettes.   There are other things you can smoke that may result in silliness, but cigarettes is not one of them.  Unfortunately, the result of smoking cigarettes is a bit more dire.  On the other hand, I suppose some folks may find that some people who smoke cigarettes may look a bit silly.

Dave, I think the play was on drinking yourself silly. Being a Dutchman I should know, right?

It was just a figure of speech.  I really didn't put any thought into it or intend any play on words.  They can smoke to their heart's desire, they can smoke till they're blue in the face, etc.
My main intent was not to give the false impression that all bars in Flordia are smoke free.

After our first gig in the place, a fight broke out outside.  Pool cues, bats, and various and sundry other implements were used.  The police were called in, and eventually cleared the pub as well.  Turns out that the pub owners' partner (or son), (or both), was involved.

We nearly didn't make it out unscathed!

Sam; I was just taking liberties with your figure of speech, hence the grin ->
Sorry I was unclear.

Had a superb gig. The really bad element stayed home or went elsewhere so the crowd weren't as scary as Mike's ;-)  We ended up playing for around 2hr 45mins with them wanting a second encore. According to some friends in the audience my basses were sounding superb and up-front in the mix. Looks like we'll be going back in January too. Followed the night with a weekend trip down to Manchester for Bass day where I was blown away by the standard of players like Adam Nitti and Yolanda Charles. If only every weekend could be that much fun.
