Kimberly's Gigs
« on: March 29, 2007, 09:39:56 AM »
Hi All.

My roadtrip has landed me in northwest Louisiana and I thought I'd post where I'm at next week just in case anyone is in the neighborhood and  wants to 'pop in'.

Tuesday and Thursday 5-8, at 'La Bossier Casino' located in the Ramada Inn right off of I-20 at the Industrial St. exit in Bossier City LA. I'm doing this one as a duo with a keyboard player.

Saturday April 7th 10-1, at the 'Noble Savage Tavern' located at 417 Texas St. in Shreveport LA.  This is going to be as a four piece with keyboards, bass, drums and guitar.

So far this is working out quite well.  My first day in town (two hours after arriving) I'm playing an open mike.  The next night I played another one and from those two I scored these gigs.  I also sat in with another band at the Horseshoe Casino last night and I've got an open invite to do it again this Friday at Lee's in Bossier City.  Sweet.

Videos will be up on YouTube in a day or two with the open mike from Monday at Lee's.

More to come.

Best Regards,

Kimberly

Adding to the list.

I'll be playing with the Rohn Maxey Band on April 29th from 6:30-9:30 on the main stage during the Holiday in Dixie festival.

Hi Dave,

It really is a pretty cool place and though you can't tell from listening, it was shockingly and nearly deafening loud on the stage, not that that was a problem mind you.  ;)

Truly the blues jam has about a 20 year history here in the area with the host Jerry Beach traveling it from club to club.  He's been at this one for at least five years according to what I've heard.  An interesting concept having the jam follow the host, but it's surely working here.

Anyway, I'm having a blast.  I put in about 10 hours of practicing/jamming yesterday with my cousin playing keyboards selecting material for some of the upcoming shows.  Tonight I'm relaxing.  It's been a heck of a week.

Best Regards,

Hey Everyone.

I've scored another gig on April 21st in Ruston LA at the Sundowner Tavern starting at 9:00.  A 12 piece horn band is going to open and then four or five of them are going to hang out and sit in with the band I'm with.  From the 'sound' of it all, the acutal band will be eight to nine pieces counting the 'horn guys'.  Sweet.

If anyone happens to be in the neighborhood, come on in and say howdy.

Best Regards,

Adding another gig for June 2nd at the 'Noble Savage Tavern', 417 Texas St. Shreveport LA.  Four piece with Stan Hoffman  keyboards, Danny Wilder guitar, John Hoffman drums and yours truly.   10:00-1:00

I'm still doing the Tuesday and Thursday duo in Bossier City and working on scoring a solo act for Wednesdays.  I'm pondering an offer to host an open mike at a place a few blocks away from where I'm staying.  Pros and cons.  Life is good.

Sounds like you've settled right into Louisiana.  Good for you. Are you having time for Youtube or photos?

Kimberly,
West Lousiana is a great place-

I spent a considerable amount of time in the Ruston and Grambling area.  Enjoy it, there is a very distinct flavor to that area of Louisiana.

Hi Everyone.

Kimberly here responding to messages.  ;)

Hi Sam.  - Everything is going very well for me here.  I do need to get on top of the videos though as I hate that I missed stuff like last weekend as it was such good music.  Maybe I can get something tonight when I'm out sitting in with another band.

Hi Toby.  - I agree about the unique flavor of the local 'culture' and area.  This is 'where I growed up' as a young'un and I grew up on the blues, southern rock, rock and roll and general mayhem.  Ahhh...the good ole days.

Hey Bill.  - I'm having a really great time.  There's a lot of music in the area and some great 'authentic' blues guys around.  As I mentioned to Sam I need to get on top of the videos, as there's been some really good stuff happening.  I've been out playing a lot making the rounds, establishing my 'credentials' and having a blast.  Life is good.

Good to hear from ' ya'll '  ;)

Best Regards,

Kimberly

Hi Everyone.

Here's a couple of videos from last night at Hotrods and Hogs, Shreveport LA, of Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition' and 'Boogie on Reggae Woman' when I sat in with the 'Second Chance' band.  I'll post another one later on this evening.  I hope you enjoy, I sure did.   (One of the things I had 'forgotten' in my break from music was, how way cool it is to play with a band.  It's a real gas.)

The first vid didn't load for me; the page wasn't there.

The second vid is cool!  Nice groove, nice solo!

And I especially liked it when the waitress came up and asked if we needed anything and then brought me a cup of coffee!!

Hey Dave,

It looks like the first one is live now so it should be good to go.

Thank you very much and thank you and thank you!

Southern hospitality.  Gotta luv it!  ;)
