Juanita's has taken over from where Mr. T's Bowl, the last good club in Highland Park, left off. So the crowd is slowly migrating over there. It's a nice vibe. This is the first performance of these tunes after I recorded them; I'll probably be playing around the Downtown LA/San Gabriel valley area, at least....

Someone was telling me people will travel to various cities and just do all the local open mic nights...like, go to Portland for a weekend or something. Anyone have any experience w/ this?

My experiences with open jams in Milwaukee have sometimes been very frustrating - it's all about who you know. But then when I open the case, everyone is interested,,,, but you know the deal, loud bar, trying to explain, special woods, hand crafted in the US then you hear it - Olympic? I smile and nod.  
 
Anyhow I guess my point is, if one was to tour cities and hit the jams they should probably try to network before hand so that they have a contact that can insure that the touree gets proper air time. This site could be a good launching pad for hooking up with musicians in the know from different cities.

How is it tuned?
What gauge strings?
What amplification?

That makes sense. Anyway, the reason I even thought of it was at least it would be easier w/ only one person. That makes it at least conceivable.  
 
It's a four-string Fender Jazz. I think I mentioned this before, but I think probably what most accounts for the tone is the long scale neck, though I have no absolute verification of this. But there's a lot of tension on the strings, which makes it very twangy. The downside is I can't really bend for shit.  
 
I use d'Addario strings and almost had a heart attack recently when I bought two sets in a row with too short G strings. It turned out to be a mistake, and they withdrew all their stock.  
 
I went direct for the recordings and made a couple lucky choices -- the sound is very present and upfront, I think.  
 
Otherwise my main amplification is Aguilar separates and Bag End cabs. Sounds incredible. Also incredibly bulky and heavy. I've been using my little Ampeg Rocket Combo for local gigs.

Side note: someone there had one of those MarkBass combos. I got a chance to lift it to test the weight...holy crap! Must buy.

I had a chance to play through their speakers recently at the Chicago Gathering in late May - I am in love. Although I never tried to lift one.
 
And I need to get an F1X to go with the Bag Ends...
 
I really need to get a second job to afford all the toys I wish for.

The Bag Ends are heavy...the MarkBass feels like a feather...it's a really weird sensation.
