The show came out pretty well...the first time I've played this new stuff live, and it sounded good....

In addition to the piccolo bass, I used the new Moog Taurus 3 pedals.

Hugh,
I grew up in Altadena!  I went to Audubon Elementary, Eliot Jr. High School and Muir High in Pasadena (class of 1972).  David Lee Roth of Van Halen was officially in one of my English classes...next time I go down south (I live in Oakland, now) I'd love to hook up and compare basses.

Oh yeah? Sure, I'm down.

Muir was the scary school, dude.

Eliot's just a few blocks away from me.

I'll definitely be down there in the next 3 months.  I have a total monster drummer friend, Paul Costa, who is also taking up bass and has a killer Mark Bass modular amp stack already set up in his multi-drumset studio.

We didn't even realize it at the time because we were just kids and it felt so natural, but Muir's environment was unique relative to the other two high schools, Pasadena and Blair. It was hardly scary in my day.

Sam,

Wait, you have a monster drummer down here? Does he have a website or anything?

Re: Muir, you can always tell someone who went to Muir. That school is badass. NW Pasadena is still as notorious as ever.

Mike,

Yeah, that's the idea. Actually it's meant to go with the cover of the HB3 Plays the Piccolo Bass album. That's based on a classic LP cover. This is based on science fiction pulp magazines/book covers. The same head shot is used in both.

Hugh,
My drummer friend, Paul Costa, is on facebook. He's also a member of Vaud and the Villains.  Give him a holler and tell him Sam Sheats sent you (Wow! I've never in my life said anything like that!).

I've known Paul since 5th grade (we're both now 55).  Absolute killer, monster drummer -- and he's a nice guy who is not too full of himself. He lives in Altadena but his drum studio is near downtown L.A.; maybe 25 minutes by freeway.

You WON'T be disappointed!  Take care.
-Sam
