Sam - I understand - I looked at your profile pic and Mary is quite beautiful. My 11-year old daughter totally agreed. She wants one too - does Alembic make electric violins with an omega cut? (maybe when she's older).

All my friends asked the same thing about permission. And I tell them, she picked up the cash at the bank --- LOL She was pretty impressed when she first saw my Rogue. She saw it as something that would not loose value (especially buying it used). My Rickenbacker has been a good purchase too!

And Hammer - the bikes do cost $$$ You into MTB or road. My son an I ride mountain. This past weekend, we went backpacking with our Scout troop and had biked the day before. We locked my bike in one of the other dad's van. It was funny that my bike was worth more than the van.

Stephen, thanks to you and your daughter for liking Mary. Come out to the Northern California gathering on April 16 and check out all the unbelievable Alembics and great folks, if you can. I went last year and it was absolutely fantastic.

Stephen - It's road only for me. Thought it was the safer way to go and raced crits., road races, and time trials for many years without an incident...until last summer. Sprinting up a hill (yes we actually do have hills in Minnesota) in a race for King of the Mountains points and all of sudden a 6-foot long 2 diameter pipe is rolling right in front of me having fallen off a passing truck. Jumped it with the front wheel but the back came down on it and I went down over the top of handlebars. Bike had minimal damage but I tore the meniscus in both knees. On the bright side of things I got to know my Distillate a lot better over the next 4-weeks or so while I recovered from surgery.

I agree with the costs of the bikes (they're all carbon and titanium). I never added up the costs of the four I own, but I do believe that if I had not purchased them I'd be playing a highly customized Series II rather than a used Distillate

Getting her to agree to me buying my first 4 Alembics wasn't an issue. I bought them all used and never paid more than $1,900 for any of them. Bought the 1st one, traded it and cash for the 2nd one. Paid $475 for the 3rd one. Sold two other basses to pay for the 4th one.

Now, the 5th and 6th ones were different. Number 5 is the one I bought from Stanley. I simply didn't tell her about it until after it arrived. Since it has a great back-story, including one of our early dates being at a Clarke-Duke Project concert where Stanley played that bass within touching distance of us, I was forgiven. Number 6, which was custom ordered before, but arrived a couple days after #5, was a different story. Just had to keep reminding her of the size of my bonus that year.
