Hi, I am bass player from the Netherlands and I am looking for a 32" Series 1.

I prefer a Point or Omega model in good shape for a reasonable price. But won't say no to a small body short scale series 1 either. Or one with anniversary electronics.

If you have one for sale send me a PM or email!
Thanks, Barend

My search is now not limited to 32" anymore.  :)
A 34" or 32" point big body series 1 or a short scale small body series 1 are options too. If you have something for sale let me know. Preferably in Europe. Only interested in 4 or 6 string basses. Thanks, Barend

Thanks for that.  I almost love French translation more than Japanese translation!

- 1 Central Micro "Dummy Hum"

- Sold with his suitcase  ;D

The "highly polished" trussrod cover is probably not original.  They were introduced in 1977.

Neck 3-way Q switch is not original. That doesn't mean it's bad, but puts in to question "all original."

The pickup selector switch also doesn't look original.  Someone more familiar with late 70's Alembics will chime in.  Again, not bad and original knobs / switches can be had from Alembic.

The brightwork is Incredibly polished!  I really had to look to see if it was real or AI.  Someone had incredible patience. Bridge seems period correct.

That is a nice bass.  6,200 euros works out to around $6,900.00 here in America.  That a Great price for the Bass, the Power Supply And "his suitcase!"

I'd hop on the train and go look at that.

Good luck

And of course there's the bone nut that is probably not original.

Is that bone or highly polished brass....like the truss rod cover?

Sorry about the photo.....where did that come from?  Adriaan, can you delete it?  It makes the thread confusing.

I know! Love that one and want to buy it. I am in contact with the seller. But he won't ship it unfortunately.

Seller says it's all original. But like Garyhead and Adriaan pointed out, there are a few things that are not original. Nut, Q switch, neck plate and probably the pick up selector. But these are no deal breakers.

Yes, that's an option too, or the other shedhua one in the UK too. Both nice, but I like the one in France more somehow.

I don't see anything functionally wrong here.

I didn't see anyone mention the plugged strap button hole in the center/back.

Nothing wrong with a bone nut. Easily replaced if you can't live with it, but outside the Alembic world, bone is widely accepted as a good nut material. I had a Distillate with one for that matter.

I think this bass may have been refretted. 50 years is a long time. Clearly it's been played.

The pickup selector switch I'm guessing is fine, just the knob replaced. It'll be in your way for slapping anyway, so you'll want to have the whole thing moved.

The replacement Q-switch mismatch would bother me enough that I'd maybe talk to Edwin about sourcing a correct one. Maybe do this at the same time the pickup switch is moved?

I like the truss-rod cover. Someone personalized this bass with that... can't tell what it says. Take it off and put the screws in the vacant holes? Or have another blank made?

I'd go see it if you're interested. Sounds like a decent deal in Europe. As you say, none of those are deal-breakers. What would be are electronics problems or some undisclosed issue, such as a broken truss-rod or something. It looks like a nice, well-loved old bass. *There's one in the Showcase Threads a lot like it that was in France some years ago.

*Here's the one I was thinking of. It's #77-617, a close relative of one I had. https://club.alembicguitars.com/series-i-basses-and-guitars/my-alembic-series-1-from-1977/msg98757/#msg98757

It has the owners name on it. Don't think it original cause it is much higher and with bigger screws than a normal Alembic neck plate. I am a bit worried that it will interfere with slapping, because it's so high. But I don't think it's that hard to have someone make a new neck plate?

It's a 13 to 14 hour journey (one way) away from me. So I just wish the seller could send it. But he won't do that, I have asked twice.

They didn't have truss-rod covers until later in 1977. Definitely added, but looks well done. I made one for my '77 that was friction-fit with foam, so no modifications, no holes. It's extremely thin. Look in the Showcase Threads for #77-621.

There is just something about Birdseye Maple, especially with an aged finish like that. I think its my favorite wood. If I will ever be in the fortunate position to order an Alembic it will have a Birdseye Maple top for sure.
