That was really good.   Bass came through nicely.

My wife stole the iPad from me and cranked it!
Something about Steve Perry.... 🤷🏻♂️😆
She was impressed that it was a bunch of old guys. 👍🏼

So we got roped into doing this gig over the weekend.  never played this venue before, cheap gig, agent says it's good exposure.  the sound person was the bar manager who set the PA up and then left the tablet on stage for us to manage.  no sound man.  The temperature was 94o (US) when hit the stage for a 4-hour show. at least it's a dry heat.. a bunch of 70-year-olds, some of us in sketchy health. what could possibly go wrnog?

i took the lightest (alembic) fretted pair i have  with the headless along for backup.  it just so happens that i can play our whole 2nd set on a 4-string, so i took the dragonwing along for some public exposure.

if ya listen on headphones, it seems that somehow the sound girl mananaged to get my bass tone.  this has got to be the most JE sounding alembic i have, even more so than the series II (*gasp*).  at least in the FOH.  plus it's just a freaking blast to play.  not too heavy, balances perfectly.  just a knockout to look at.  i can tell ya that regressing backwards to a 4-string is tougher than it sounds.  i wouldn't have done it for any other bass.  except maybe a spyder.

so here ya have the dragonwing taking flight with the midnight rambler

Band and bass both sound good Tim! Always fun to play Stones covers, too.

The two Axial Tilt Great American Music Hall shows in San Francisco last weekend were big fun. It felt really special to be able to pay tribute to founding member Ron "Pigpen" McKernan and explore some of the blues roots of the Grateful Dead with a blues legend. Charlie and his wife were gracious and fun to hang out with and he really enjoyed playing with us.

Someone who came both nights uploaded a couple of videos featuring Charlie to his YouTube channel.

here's one from our gig last week.  late thursday night last set playing for the lounge lizards and waitstaff.  pretty glad i'm retired and don't have to get up and be useful the next day.  dunno how i did this when i was a youngster with all the drugs and booze thrown in.  if i'm lucky, a stretch of songs will turn up in the set list that i can play on a 4-string, so the dragonwing gets some air time.  here's workin for a livin and rebel yell back-to-back.  did i say i'm in an 80's cover band?  well i yam!

cheers!

That's a nice quality video; sound quality is good too.

haven't posted up in a whille, band's been going thru some changes, our singers were having pitch wars so the culprit was ousted.  now we have a different look.  she likes to sing U2 and asked us to learn this one.  here's our first shot at it.  it's hard to see it, but i'm on the dragonwing.  that bass has made me appreciate a 4-string all over again.  and again.

here it is, warts and all. i think this one's got wheels.

cheers!

Interesting, past videos indicated the previous singer was good.  (says the guy that barks at the moon).

New singer sounds really good.  (says the guy that barks at the moon)

Seriously the end part when she set her phone down and focused on singing instead of following the words.... That was great!

I was in high school when U2 were hitting it big, plus my buddy was TOTALLY into them - fortunately he liked Rush too! We'd go to one another's house or be in a rehearsal room my school had and play along with U2, Rush, the Police - those were the main ones. He's the reason Red Rocks makes me think of U2 Under A Blood Red Sky (the Red Rocks concert from 1983). I'm sure we played this one, though we actually played "Bullet the Blue Sky" live in our school's Battle of the Bands - it's another song from the album, easier to sing - as in doable, with "Where the Streets..." being impossible for me.

Which reminds me - your singer sounds great! I thought the band sounded good too especially if this was the first time! The drummer seems to know it, that's important for a song like this.

Too bad we can't see the bass - or the drummer lol - cool that you record your rehearsals!

thanks for the good vibes, guys.  what you saw of our last singer was the highlight reel.  the blooper reel was bigger, plus the IEM thing and yadda, yadda, yadda.  so we hit bandmix, do a cattle call, she's 1st up and blows our doors off.  she has a penchant for 80's music.  is apparently OK with being backed up by the over the hill gang.  go figure.

here's the audition video if ya wanna see it. walks in cold off the street.  i had the pretty bass on for this round.  it's kinda my swiss army knife when i gotta play anything on one bass from our repertoire.
