I have red LEDs with double amber on the 12th fret.  The red is great for not affecting night vision.  The amber is not noticeably brighter than the red.  I did have Alembic install an internal dimmer switch for the LEDs, so I can adjust the brightness to my preference.

I was considering red led lights for that purpose. Maybe the amber lights are not the best option for this bass. I will also want to have a dimmer pot regardless of color choice when we get to that point of the build.
