I'm still a big fan of Steely Dan including the solo works of Donald and Walter.
In recent years I started learning some their songs too and realised they are more intricate and interesting than i expected. Chuck Rainey is a superbly creative bass player.
Well done. 👍🏾
Thanks! The song structures and harmony in Steely Dan are definitely interesting! I remember being blown away by Chuck Rainey's playing on Aja (he's on all but one song) - I think I'm going to try and do a video of one of those next, maybe Black Cow.
Aja is one I really want to try also and Green Earrings.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

What have you done to help with the trigger finger?
The main thing was to stop playing with my fingers and play with pick exclusively. The trigger finger went away after a month or so, but the finger was still sore and wouldn't bend all the way. It's only the past couple of months that I noticed it felt better and tried playing gently with my fingers, then when I was practicing for the Steely Dan bass cover I realized that it's much better - not 100% but getting there. Oh, I also cut out red meat, soda, and fries and have been trying to eat more salmon. I guess it's working?

I must have missed this.

It's a longer story than I'll clutter up your Showcase Thread with, but I hurt my right hand bad putting in a water heater last year. (well, really, disposing of the old one after the job...) Anyway, after the tweety-birds all flew away and the adrenaline subsided, I had a big knot in the palm of my right hand and the ring finger would lock if I made a fist or tried to grip anything. It took about 8 months to go away completely.

I hadn't thought about it before you said something, but I seldom ever have red meat, never drink soda, can't remember last order of fries. I hate salmon, but have tuna on rice cakes almost daily. On the other hand, I get a ballistic dose of anti-inflammatory meds twice daily, but that was in effect well before the water heater mishap. Thankful for whatever combination fixed it, because I was dreading what was coming if it didn't go away. It bothered me most playing upright. I don't use that finger to pull the strings with, but it would often respond with the others and lock. 🤯
