I remember that bass... I remember wondering if Sharpie pen soaked into oil finish. 

*I actually drew up a quote for a custom medium-scale guitar, inspired largely by that bass. Brown Bass, Stanley Retro, but a guitar. Then remembered/realized I was never, ever going to be player enough to need it.

Really like that shape and the woods! The signature not so much, especially not the 2016. Not why the signature is on the front on the bass and not on the back, spoils that nice top wood.

What I find strange is that the pickup covers don't have the same color?

Well NAMM show isn't quite right, we haven't exhibited in over 25 years, but this is a special bass. It was a bass in Bass Central's inventory, and Stanley borrowed it for a local show that he only brought his upright to. Beaver asked him to sign the bass when he brought it back. So it's not only signed by Stan, he played it at a live performance. I looked for some video but wasn't successful.  

I also seem to recall this bass came with a glass front display case. Maybe after-the-fact, but it had one at some point. Just thinking; it could explain why one pickup aged quicker... incidental light exposure. I wouldn't care about that. 

Also worth considering that the pickups are in fact the same color but not facing exactly the same direction, so lighting and reflections matter.

I totally remember that Stanley story. Cool looking bass! I'm not a fan of autographs on instruments, but I might could make an exception for this one!

Me too, when i got my basses autographed by Stanley, i just took the backplates off took them to the gig and he signed those.
